In the 1990s, the two *major* trends at the TTRPG publishers were (1) TCGs and (2) player-facing supplements. What we got from TSR was a brilliant array of settings: Forgotten Realms, Planescape, Dragonlance, Spelljammer, Dark Sun. As the supplement model recedes into history, we see the impact.
