Apparently the $90 is already a pending direct deposit. I'm not sure it is a legal use of the MIF... nor am I sure of how I should record it on my tax spreadsheet. Until I am told otherwise, I guess I'll count it as income (so I can plan how to avoid paying taxes on it).

I've been using this thread to try to log my last hummingbird sighting. I saw three yesterday and as of a few minutes ago, another one. I'll need to go out in a bit and check the feeder level (although I think it looks ok from here). These little ones bring me such joy!

I had a male (named him Grumpy) who chased all the other birds away, even though I have three feeders. I picked up a fourth feeder last week. I'm going to set in a different part of the yard for next year and hopefully I'll see even more.

Step 1: look at the range of high temperatures for my city. Looks like 20F to 100+F. Step 2: break the range into subranges ( <20F, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34...85-89, 90-94, 95-99, >100F). Step 3: assign fabric colors, make a guide, and prep some hexies. Step 4: start sewing!

I'm thinking about starting a new EPP project: a temperature quilt chart similar to the one in the picture. I have the paper templates already, so I would just need to get some fabrics for the temperature range. I've wanted to make one for years, but I've been reluctant to commit... goal for 2027.

After two (hot) weeks of almost no small birds visiting my feeders, the sparrows and wrens are back. They are also happily bathing in my rain gutter (there's a dip that fills after any good rain). I've also had several new hummingbird visits this morning; one plump adult and two skinny juveniles.

I'm fairly certain my regular summer hummingbirds headed south last week. I had one day (9/25) without any sightings at all. But, I've been averaging one or two every day since, so I think I must be feeding some travelers. They spiral around the feeders, test each (of 3), then settle in at one.

My original strawberry blond color was from my father's side of the family (he was the only dark hair in a sea of copper). I colored it to dark auburn for years. I really love all the natural colors I've got going on now... shades from auburn to chestnut, with ashy-platinum strays and streaks.

Before chemo (2019) my hair was very thick and curly. After treatment, it was fine and almost straight. I let it grow out during Covid. In 2023, bored, I started getting pixie cuts. Lately, I've been letting it grow out and it is thick and curly again! I like it, though it's a bit moppish atm.

I love wearing overalls, especially funky ones. At the moment I have (boring) denim, small blue and white flowers, purple, and now I'm working on the gray pair. It took me YEARS to find a pattern that I liked.

One of the "fun" things that I do is track our budget (mostly fixed income, although we do have some discretionary if we need it). The goal is to live within our means so that we are not drawing down savings too quickly, but to also not pay any federal/state income tax. Spreadsheets for the win!

Anyone (KY local) looking to pick up some inexpensive meat, Boone's Butcher Shop's frozen bundle this week is all beef (sirloin, round, patties, chubs, and roasts). We'd been waiting for this. We also snagged 10lbs of pork chops for $1.67/lb and 2 ham hocks for winter baked beans.

I *might* have overdone it a bit yesterday, as I am fairly stiff and sore today. Even still, we ran some errands this morning, including a stop at Ollie's. The find of the day at Ollie's was 8 yards of a very soft, steel gray poly-cotton fabric for $20 total. I see new overalls in my future!

I am in no way a "doomsday prepper". I'm not thinking about political unrest and societal collapse. I've just been trying to consider natural disasters (tornado, fire, flood, ice, earthquake) and the scenarios where we might need to SIP for a week or two without city power (heat) or water.

Y'all, I wish I'd taken a camera in for dinner tonight. 😋 @mattlevy.bsky.social made chana makhani and naan, both from scratch. It was absolutely amazing! It was his first time making either of the dishes and he absolutely nailed it. Enough for dinner tomorrow night too, plus 2 meals for freezer.

Last year we bought a love seat for our living room, not because we needed more seating, but because we wanted Percy to have his own "bed" that was up off the floor. We'd left some storage boxes on it for the last few months. I finally moved them and Percy immediately jumped up and stretched out.

I have astigmatism, so have needed (though not always worn) correction since my 20's. I can technically pass a driving test without glasses (confirmed last week), but I remember what it was like the first time I started wearing glasses for driving! This new pair though - it's wild how different!

Rather than get progressives, I use three different pairs: driving distance, intermediate (what I usually wear), and detail distance (for sewing). My reflection in the bathroom mirror caught me off guard just now. "Growing older" is in sharp focus with these new intermediate distance glasses.
