I'm thinking about starting a new EPP project: a temperature quilt chart similar to the one in the picture. I have the paper templates already, so I would just need to get some fabrics for the temperature range. I've wanted to make one for years, but I've been reluctant to commit... goal for 2027.

I'm fairly certain my regular summer hummingbirds headed south last week. I had one day (9/25) without any sightings at all. But, I've been averaging one or two every day since, so I think I must be feeding some travelers. They spiral around the feeders, test each (of 3), then settle in at one.

Before chemo (2019) my hair was very thick and curly. After treatment, it was fine and almost straight. I let it grow out during Covid. In 2023, bored, I started getting pixie cuts. Lately, I've been letting it grow out and it is thick and curly again! I like it, though it's a bit moppish atm.

One of the "fun" things that I do is track our budget (mostly fixed income, although we do have some discretionary if we need it). The goal is to live within our means so that we are not drawing down savings too quickly, but to also not pay any federal/state income tax. Spreadsheets for the win!

Anyone (KY local) looking to pick up some inexpensive meat, Boone's Butcher Shop's frozen bundle this week is all beef (sirloin, round, patties, chubs, and roasts). We'd been waiting for this. We also snagged 10lbs of pork chops for $1.67/lb and 2 ham hocks for winter baked beans.

I *might* have overdone it a bit yesterday, as I am fairly stiff and sore today. Even still, we ran some errands this morning, including a stop at Ollie's. The find of the day at Ollie's was 8 yards of a very soft, steel gray poly-cotton fabric for $20 total. I see new overalls in my future!

Last year we bought a love seat for our living room, not because we needed more seating, but because we wanted Percy to have his own "bed" that was up off the floor. We'd left some storage boxes on it for the last few months. I finally moved them and Percy immediately jumped up and stretched out.

Woah! The first little bit with new eyeglass lenses requires some adjustment time, ya know? I knew I needed new intermediate-distance lenses for a couple of years, but since I wasn't working, it didn't seem to be that much of a priority... but wow, what a difference a little clarity makes!

We were out running some errands this morning and two items to note. (1) WOW! Gas jumped over the weekend! We're actually seeing close to $4/gal here for the first time, with diesel tipping over $6. (2) CVS had 8'x4' of shelf space for different eye drops, causing indecision paralysis. Yuck.

I at the point with my hair (again) where I could: a- let it grow long again, b- add some color (likely purple), c- cut it super short again, or d- some combination. As I go gray, I naturally have strands/stripes of copper, silver, brown, gray, and platinum. It's pretty. I'm just bored.

Percy had his spa day today and we are so proud of him (and the lovely groomer)! He had a bath, blow out, brush out, and was trimmed. We paid extra for the "special needs" attention and it was well worth it. He's tired, but his fur is so soft and he actually smells good. Thanks See Spot Grooming!

Ugh. I don't remember feeling quite this bad after getting duelling vaccines the last few years. My arms are aching, I'm absolutely exhausted, and now my tummy is troubled. Going back to bed real soon. Don't let my experience keep you from getting your own shots, though. Vaccines work.

We got up early (for us), went out for breakfast (reward first), then got our updated flu and covid vaccines. Once we were back home, we minced 7 lbs of boneless/skinless chicken thighs ($1.39/lb on clearance) and packed for the freezer. Rest of our weekend will be relaxing/recovering from shots.

Percy has had something of a rough morning. A sedated exam and partial groom was absolutely essential to remove all the nasty matted fur at his back end. They also trimmed his nails. He still needs a full bath/blow/brush out, but now he can visit the special needs groomer and learn to love the spa.

We have two extra-large dish drying mats that I have loved. They were (supposedly) washable, but after a couple of cycles of use, they got all lumpy. I realized I could quilt them to keep the stuffing from shifting around during the wash. I've done that, so I hope to get a couple more years of use.

I wanted a sandwich for dinner, since we have bread that needs to get eaten. I pulled a jar of "ugly chicken" from the cantry, drained it, added green grape chunks, fine dice red onion, fine dice celery, mayo, salt & pepper; then mixed gently to combine. Piled a generous amount onto toasted bread.

As I look out my window, I see that the birds are enjoying the fruits of their* gardening. [I allowed different grain seeds from the bird feeders to grow to maturity underneath. The greenery is pretty. As the plants ripen, sparrows, wrens, and finches cling on the tall stems and eat their fill.]

I was discharged from physical therapy today! I have 95% normal range of motion back in my right shoulder, better than my left, with only one pain point. I was as strongly encouraged to keep doing the weight and band work at home daily, until I need another shot, to keep up my strength progress.

Busy day so far: ortho follow-up (all good), thrift shopping (some major scores there), and preserving the last of this weekend's farmers market veggies (corn prepped and in the freezer, 3.5 pints of pickled jalapeno peppers in the canner). That's it on my to-do list, so I'm gonna relax for a bit.

I have another package that has been traveling without me. Apparently it is delayed and will not arrive tomorrow after all (after being shipped from about 2.25 hours away).

This is absolutely my favorite weather. I slept with the window open again last night and, at 10am, it is still open. Even though the sun has been up in a cloudless sky for several hours, it is only 73F outside, with a very slight breeze. Lovely, though I need a sweater. More like this, please!

We make ghee for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is we can buy butter right now for $2.89/lb which yields 8 fl oz of toasted ghee. Buying ghee starts at $8-12 for 12 fl oz (cheapest prices I can find). It's a shelf-stable fat that tastes amazing in baking, cooking, even as a spread.

Yesterday we made duck stock from frozen bits from earlier this year. Today, we’re making beef stock and ghee , to be canned this afternoon.

There's a major turf battle going on right now at the hummingbird feeders. One male (Grumpy) has claimed my yard as his territory, but there are two smaller males repeatedly challenging him, including bombing into Grumpy from above. Meanwhile, females are sneaking in to eat while Grumpy is busy.

Matt made vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce yesterday, so we had brownie sundaes for dessert. I spent another wonderful night sleeping with a cool(ish) breeze coming in through the open window. This morning, once I finish my coffee, I'll mow at least the front yard before it gets too hot.

I'm feeling much better today. We've been to the farmer's market (corn, jalapenos, candy onions, green peppers) and CVS. I've managed to finish all the tasks on my around-the-house list: clean+refill bird feeders, wipe down appliances, change filters, bathroom cleaning. Time to relax in some A/C!

Such excitement in my neighborhood! Heard a loud boom and felt the ground shake... after determining that it was incredibly localized to between our neighborhood and the one on the other side of the woods, we suspect a sinkhole collapsed. Someone is gonna fly a drone over the area tomorrow.

Day 2.5 of this fibro flare had me going to PT for a light workout, then sleeping for 5hrs, after sleeping 10hrs last night. Matt is cooking a simple dinner of chicken and rice to try to tempt me to eat, since I haven't wanted any food all day. It smells tempting, so I'll at least nibble a little.

Percy is truly a strange dog. He wants what we're having for breakfast and eat with us. I'll take his healthy cereal, toss it in the pan we made the bacon in, add scrapings from the scrambled egg pan. But if I do this after we eat and leave the kitchen, he whines. We have to bring his food with us.
