For the first time in my long dentist-going life my hygienist suggested I wear headphones during my cleaning and it changed the whole damn game. Also look at this cute radio they gave me.
A white hand with iridescent blue-green nail polish holds a black handheld radio from RadioShack with white corded headphones plugged in. Digital display shows the dial turned to 101.9 WDET FM baby

Aspinall monument alit
A big marble plinth type monument with an urn on top. Name on the base reads “Aspinall.” It’s night time and the monument is uplit. Other monuments and trees in the background are illuminated and a colorful pathway extends into the distance

FirefighterKindly349 OP • 14d

Amazing thank you! My grump Husband (who was a coal miner in England starting at age 16. Guess he has reason to be grumpy) loves old graveyard.
So do l! I am going to plan activities for us, stuff I know husband will like (kid is happy if husband is) so l have my first thing which is the graveyard.
Thanks! Any good antique stores? Just to look?

The Mighty Sparrow, Trinidadian Titan of Calypso, Is Dead at 91
He was sometimes described as the last of the true calypso singers. But in fact he simultaneously preserved calypso tradition and invented it anew.

Well. How did I get here?
can’t exactly remember what compelled me to request “The Revolution of 1848: Dr Herman Kiefer” by Warren Washburn Florer from inter library loan. But it’s a pretty navy blue book with title in gold lettering and a decorative gold border

Actually a pretty good (and very pretty) late summer day for cemetery wildlife watching: squirrel napping, hawk eating, cats slinking (not pictured)
Red-tailed hawk stands on the ground in front of a monument to John P. Cook, 1825-1898. You can’t see in the photo but the hawk has caught a squirrelBlack squirrel is taking a nap on the branch of a yew tree. In the background is the wall of a hillside mausoleum

Things I have learned about Zach Chandler lately: He loved boxing. He chased fellow legislators down the streets of D.C. to harass them to impeach Andrew Johnson. He wanted to annex Canada! This guy. THIS guy. I'm talking about him tonight: www.eventbrite.com/e/stalwart-t...

Wasn’t sure whether to trust the many Michigan-made claims that Michigan was the epicenter of the 19th century hot air balloon craze until I found this headline from Milwaukee sort of scoffing at the whole scene
Newspaper headline reads “BALLON CRAZE NOT FELT HERE” deck “This city never had but one spasm of aerial navigation and that collapsed” subdeck “Michigan the home of high navigators”, Milwaukee Daily News, 1907

I’m not even researching zither players, they just keep finding me
Back and white photo clipped from the 50th anniversary program of the Detroit Turner Society shows members of the Turner Zither Club. The all-male ensemble wears suits with bow ties and they’re each holding a zither, with four seated at a long table, six standing behind them, and a conductor at their right. A standalone zither is propped up in front of the table.

Abraham Lincoln Burial Room, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
"The burial room features black and white marble walls and a ceiling of gold leaf. At its center stands the memorial monument, a 7-ton block of reddish marble inscribed with Lincoln's name and the years he lived. It marks the approximate location of the burial vault, which is 30 inches behind and 10 feet below." (Wikipedia)
