Discussing the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, unicycling, juggling, backgammon, and crowd photos I'm in, but mostly the first topic. Cozy, old-fashioned amurder. Lots and lots of amurder. Companion account to @amusementmark.eurosky.social.

Kona mi godkjente Karl Ove Knausgård og ba meg lese bøkene hans, men hun giftet seg jo med meg, så jeg har aldri stolt på dømmekraften hennes ... men jaja, får vel lese den forbanna serien da.

I gave up on Updike's "Rabbit, Run" a month ago, but now I'm back and determined to finish it. During that timeout, I read Christie's "Five Little Pigs" and Gladys Mitchell's "Speedy Death," which is what I hoped would happen to Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom. But I'm in a kinder frame of mind now.

Widely perceived as a writer of cosy, old-fashioned mysteries rooted in the interwar years, Agatha Christie was in fact one of the most culturally engaged authors of the 1960s. Far from being a rel…

Came across this tank at work. It was headed back to the pond it terrorizes (I've seen a duck pulled under, its carcass popping up days later).

There’s nothing like getting a tornado warning on your phone at midnight. Stoopid weather. Tornado Alley USA is definitely creeping eastward/northward, where all the cool people live. This activity needs to stay in Flyover Country, where it belongs. This is the actual border control that is needed.

"Wheel of Death" (S10 E21), featuring juggler Jimi Defilippis¹, left, is the absolute best episode of "Murder, She Wrote," which isn't saying much, but still ... fight me! ¹ Defilippis is the real-life son-in-law of Ron Masak, who played Sheriff Metzger and was a Lou Costello impersonator.

Finished "American Pastoral" this morning, and I'm 59 percent through "Intermezzo." I only read R authors. It's a whole community. We call ourselves Arthurs. You're welcome to join, unless you're a Potterhead. That's just weird, sad and pathetic.

Just your normal Fourth of July with the sound of illegal fireworks plus stealth bombers, various military aircraft and Air Faux One: Qatari Edition™ (didn't get a photo) flying holding-pattern loops overhead. We live about 85 miles, as the crow flies, from Washington, D.C. Did not see any crows.

Wife forced me, at knifepoint, to watch "The Sheep Detectives" last night. Initially, I was excited at the mention of taxine, which plays a part in Agatha Christie's "A Pocket Full of Rye," then I grew steadily bored ... well, because it's a kids movie. Also, I hate celebrities doing voice work.

At the end of every episode of "The Carol Burnett Show," her guests sign a red autograph book. This episode alone has Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Rowan & Martin. I imagine these books still exist¹, and they must be worth a small fortune.

Just finished watching "The Thursday Murder Club." Wow, it was just so ... so ... god-awful. I haven't read the books, and I never will. They might be wonderful, and I enjoy Richard Osman on "The Rest Is Entertainment," but this movie has soured me on the source material. Inject me with fentanyl.

There has been much lamenting in the press that Agatha Christie's house in Baghdad has fallen into disrepair. The two-storey house was the headquarters for the British School of Archaeology in Iraq from 1955 onwards and overlooks the Tigris River in the less influential area of Karadet Maryam.

Knowing that I like detective fiction, my friend passed along his MIL's advice on what authors I should read. Agatha Chrissy? Dorothy Sailor? Noah Marsh? Something like that. I can't remember. (I josh. They were good suggestions, and nothing to do with the Queens.)

Holy crap, a Datsun. I wish I had hired a scale model, a la one of those unsung heroes, in a tintype photo, who poses with an oversized saw and the stump of a felled redwood, to stand next to the truck. It's absolutely tiny compared to the 4-wheeled sequoias of today. Too late now. Dat sun has set.
