My dogs have different approaches to being at the ocean. One of them really gets it. The other one… not so much? 😂
A medium size brown and white dog lying on a rocky coast looking out at the ocean. The water beyond him is calm and the sky is clear. A yellow lab-type dog also lying on the rocky coast, but his back is to the ocean and he is looking into the brush. Admittedly the brush is pretty, going green to red, and there are likely some squirrels running around in there. Beyond him more the rocky coastline and a glimpse of ocean and sky top right.

I guess I’m saying I hear you, and Trinity is another example.

I went to Trinity, a year behind Tucker Carlson (much to my disgust). I knew nothing about anything when I enrolled. As it turns out, Trinity is a safety school for rich prep school kids who don’t legacy their way into an Ivy. The drinking/frat/SA scene there was ghastly.

I mistakenly used cumin instead of cinnamon in the apple pie at thanksgiving a few years ago. It was not a good pie.

As someone who lives in the northeastern US, they seem like a storybook animal to me. It makes me laugh to think about seeing kangaroos the way we see deer or turkeys around here. I’m envious!

Geez, that seems like a lot of dead birds for one walk. I take photos of dead birds too… most of mine are from window strikes.

Update…
In the background, a hillside in VT covered with trees in brilliant shades of rednand orange. In he foreground, green branches and some evergreens. The sky over the hillside is grey.

And the ironic thing is, a boy/man who does THIS is a leader, a protector, an alpha in the best way. The rapey men are none of those things. They are not who they believe themselves to be.

Nuvaxovid (formerly Novavax) without insurance was $298 today at CVS (ouch, but worth it).

It’s tough to get a good view of this hillside across from where i live, but it’s always worth trying. Every year it has the best reds.
A glimpse of a hillside covered in trees with fall red foliage. The foreground is trees with leaves that are starting to yellow, creating a sort of lime-green color. A zoomed close-up of the last photo, with the red-leaved hillside taking up most of the shot. It’s a little blurry due to the zoom.

I’m pretty tired of people who live in the US with their “Why aren’t millions of Americans out in the streets protesting,” takes. Why don’t you start, poster, by asking yourself why YOU aren’t out in the streets and maybe you’ll be closer to an answer.

I agree with you, Vivian. Predatory men are afraid they will get themselves into a sexual situation with someone and that it will degrade their own “manhood” if it turns out that person is a trans woman. And they react violently to this possibility.

Two big tomatoes held in hand. They are orange with red streaks One of the tomatoes sliced in three parts. The inside is orange with red webbing. Brucshetta: the orange tomato with red webbing on a slice of bread, with cheese and garlic, broiled

We aren’t “hallucinating intolerable inflation.” We are, in the real, actual world - at the grocery store, when paying our bills - experiencing intolerable and unsustainable price pressure on necessities like food, energy, and health insurance/health care.

I saw a new gyn doc this year and inquired about whether a hysterectomy might be a good option for my issues and she said “I will do a hysterectomy for anyone who wants one” and i was immediately in love. She’s awesome. (Unfortunately I am uninsured, so $-wise it’s out of reach.)

A moral emergency.
We are transfixed by those who defy this dehumanization because the vague way in which we allow our leaders to perpetually delay fixing this "broken" system obscures a moral emergency. Which is that Medicare for All would prevent an estimated 68,000 unnecessary deaths a year. Each of these cases represents real people, whom others love and need. Each of them has the capacity to feel terror; each has an experience that someday could be yours. This is to say nothing of the countless others whose bodies will be brutalized or neglected because a company does not wish to pay, despite the fact that we ourselves have paid them. Broken is for household appliances. The American health care system is inhumane. It is predicated on bodies not being real, but the thing about bodies is that they always are.

Oh he died. At 92. How to be a poet
How To Be a Poet
Wendell Berry
(to remind myself
Make a place to sit down.
Sit down. Be quiet.
You must depend upon
affection, reading, knowledge, skill-more of each than you have-inspiration, work, growing older, patience, for patience joins time to eternity. Any readers who like your poems, doubt their judgment.
ii
Breathe with unconditional breath the unconditioned air.
Shun electric wire.
Communicate slowly. Live a three-dimensioned life; stay away from screens.
Stay away from anything that obscures the place it is in.
There are no unsacred places; there are only sacred places and desecrated places.
iii
Accept what comes from silence.
Make the best you can of it.
Of the little words that come out of the silence, like prayers prayed back to the one who prays, make a poem that does not disturb the silence from which it came.
