I posted this on my fb/ig today and wanted to share here too.

I’m posting this nearly 10-year-old photo of my son as a reminder to myself and all parents that raising our sons to be “strong men” means teaching them to be accountable, emotionally healthy, empathetic, respectful, and responsible. We must teach them that other people are not objects; that their own desires, needs, and wants must never be met by lessening the humanity or well-being of someone else. We must teach them to reject toxic masculinity and outdated idioms like “boys will be boys.”

We must teach them that real strength isn’t about how much they can lift or how fast they can run or blocking out viewpoints counter to their own or how successfully they can silence insecurities and tamp down their emotions. We must teach them that real strength lies in being accountable for what they do and say, in caring for other people, in emotional regulation, in understanding their feelings, in respecting the bodily autonomy and rights of family, friends, and strangers alike, and in asking for help.

It won’t be easy. It won’t be without mistakes and setbacks. Growing up never is. But if we provide our sons a path to understanding that learning and listening and loving will lead them to real strength, we will have taken enormous strides to making the world a better place, not just for them, but for everyone.

WTF is this? I feel like it is necessary to also mention that this email also specifically says in the body that that the "2026 Global Football Tournament will bring millions of international soccer fans to the U.S. this summer..." Is FIFA so powerful that unaffiliated orgs can't say "World Cup?"
