Brave new world for me today as I start doing supply. No work today so I enjoyed a snowy school run, did some much needed house sorting, batch cooked some lunch and read a book. Can’t complain! Tomorrow I will be teaching. History. Interesting times abound!

Another shameless plug for myself in case anyone had a last minute staffing bombshell as they broke up for Christmas.

Don’t suppose anyone needs an English teacher somewhere within a commutable distance from Chester…

A teaching and retention crisis and yet I, with 14 years teaching experience and more than a decade of TLR posts, cannot even get shortlisted for jobs. What gives?

Remember when we all came over here and were like “wow. This is nice!” Well that’s what teaching in a sixth form is like. It’s just so bloody civilised.

A bonus day off for me to cover childcare for an inset day, so I’m being bankrupt by my eldest doing all the things we can’t usually do with a 2 year old in tow.

Bags are packed, lunches are made and overnight oats are in the fridge. Rest assured, this level of organisation won’t last to the end of the week let alone the half term!

Totally embracing the start of September by making my own pumpkin spice latte in a pumpkin mug. 🍁🎃

My role until Christmas is in a sixth form college so I started the term this week. It’s been fascinating seeing how the enrolment process works, not least because I’ve been able to hear about what students study on so many other courses.

Hey #TeamEnglish and #Edusky, has anyone collated a list of past questions for AQA A Level Litb (tragedy and political protest)? If so, I'd love it if someone would be willing to share as it would be a massive time-saver! 🙏

I’m not saying I’m ready to embrace Autumn or anything, but I do seem to be looking up pumpkin spice latte recipes. 🎃🍂

One night away and I am utterly addicted the Love is Blind Sweden. I’m heading home to parent my children now so I’ll have to go cold turkey for some hours. The audacity!

Day 7 of our staycation means I get 24 hours entirely to myself. I’m taking myself to Liverpool for a spa, my book and time to binge the new episodes of Emily in Paris. Bliss!

A useful reminder even for someone not new to teaching.

This summer we’re having a staycation. A proper one where we actually stay at home and do things a tourist would do. Today was a day trip to Llangollen and it was perfection. What a beautiful place.

I think we can call this a day well spent.

This was a really interesting listen. Twitter was a central part of my becoming politically engaged and I find it fascinating to consider the role it’s played in journalism and politics.

It feels an apt time to start afresh on here since this week my teaching career was resurrected from the ashes. After a bruising recruitment season leaving me thinking I would just have to leave education entirely, I was offered a role teaching English in a sixth form college until Christmas.

Ok, it seems quite nice over here so far. Maybe I’ll even post occasionally, instead of just stealing everyone else’s brilliance. Can’t promise I’ll offer much more than photos of cats mind you…
