It has been a real privilege to host so many amazing speakers at our CWV conference this week. What started as a small idea between a couple of PhD students has turned into a brilliant event with over 60 attendees and an expanding network of over 90 researchers of early modern violence - thank you!

Yesterday, I ended the day on a high after an amazing 3 day conference sharing ideas with some brilliant people. This morning I woke up to an email telling me 16 members of my department would be taking voluntary redundancy. Feeling let down by the institution today. I stand with our staff always.

With an overwhelming amount of amazing papers given this week at the CWV conference, I was so lucky to give my own paper on early modern women's roles in the maritime economy during wartime.

Keeping with that maritime flavour, panel 5 took us through experiences of conflict and violence at sea (and not always at sea), with Liz Preston, Lisa R. Wojahn and our very own Annaliese Money @amm-maritime.bsky.social ⚓

Today is International Women in Maritime day! Today I think about some of these women from the South Coast of Devon whose voices I am trying to uncover in my research and hope they inspire our generations now to recognise women's contributions. #internationawomeninmaritime #maritimewomen

One of the best things about being at the University of Exeter is the random friends you meet on the way into the office. What a campus we have!

When your 'small scale local history' project comes across this guy *George Waymouth* from Cockington sent to colonise Virginia in 1605. Today I am tracing the wills of the Waymouth mariners in Devon and found some international links to the Elizabethan New World sailors.

I had a wonderful time at the SWAAN workshop last week presenting my current work on early modern women's participation in the Newfoundland fishing trade in Devon. I cannot wait to hear more about the work that comes from this network with both historical and modern maritime women.

A memorable weekend in Greenwich speaking at the National Maritime Museum for the 'Britain, Conflict, and the Sea conference'. It was fantastic to hear the latest maritime historical research extending globally, questioning identity, imperialism and ideas of Britishness within the last 200 years.
