Photography and advertising image. A color photograph of a provocative ceramic tableware in the shape of a vase with an imprint. The photo shows a white ceramic vase with artificial golden metal flowers on an elegant wooden cabinet. The inscription is unusual, as it reads "Fuck" in large, old blue letters. Next to it is an ensemble with two glass salt and pepper shakers and in the background you can see a piece of a yellow-framed painting on a green wall.
Info: The photo is part of an advertising campaign by an Italian ceramics manufacturer presenting its collection of provocative tableware. I have decided not to link to this photo as it is a business with which I am in no way affiliated.

Streetartwall. A mural for the 2019 election was sprayed/painted on a 420 square meter wall in Dresden. In the colors yellow and green and designed like an art nouveau poster, a girl is depicted with a ballot box. She is wearing a shirt and a long-sleeved T-shirt on top of each other and has short curly hair peeking out from under a baseball cap. She is holding a rose in her hand. The other hand is resting on a cardboard box with a slit that reads "In the rage, moan loses his intelligence".
Info: The idea with this huge election poster was to get as many eligible voters as possible to cast a democratic and sustainable vote. The slogan originally came from the Dalai Lama.

Streetartwall. A beautiful mural of a red-haired young woman with a cat has been painted on the slightly curved exterior wall of a two-storey modern building in the city center. The young woman is depicted from head to toe as a huge painting (7.00 x 2.00 m) on a beige background. With a friendly look in her eyes, the woman, elegantly dressed in a blue dress with a yellow floral pattern and high brown boots, gazes in the direction of passers-by. A gray striped cat nestles around her neck and she holds a black bird in front of her with both hands. The mural has a positive mood created by the interplay of graceful elements, floral and animal motifs and is reminiscent of Art Nouveau depictions.

Streetartwall. A comic-style mural depicting an unusual couple has been painted on the white exterior wall of a pub. It shows an older couple making out. Photography and art. A color photograph of a sculpture in an exhibition space in Korea, showing two naked, hairless human figures sitting side by side on a brown block and holding hands. They look a little like 1 meter tall dolls, but the figures are both only half, as if they had each been cut in half. Twins split in half. The object, which is interesting in itself, stands in front of a glass front that reveals a view of green, bushy ferns. This confuses the viewer, as one involuntarily wants to complete the two figures in one's mind, as there are clear cuts between the green, the half-human, the green in between, the next half-human and the green again. Both the sculpture and the photo are thought-provoking and that is... Art.

Streetartwall. A fantastic mural based on a comic drawing by Max Cabannes has been installed on the outside wall of a four-storey building on the city wall. The huge mural (120 m²) is painted entirely in shades of blue and shows a girl leaning against the city wall and looking down on the city below. This painted light blue wall connects to the real city wall on the right. The mural shows the view of a town built into the rock on the wall of the house. It incorporates parts of the surroundings, such as roofs and parts of buildings, e.g. the city wall, and continues them in an imaginary view. A wonderfully precise work that extends over several levels and characterizes the cityscape.

Photography. A black and white photo of a group of children playing on a long slide. The picture shows a lively scene on a hill, which is overgrown with grass on the side. A curved metal slide leads from top to bottom and serves as the center of the action. A child climbs up the hill while another child slides down in the middle of the slide. In the foreground, a teenager stands with his legs apart at the end of the slide and looks up at this child. Two more children are standing next to him and others are standing at the top of the hill. The children are dressed in woolen sweaters or jackets and jeans. A multi-storey concrete apartment building can be seen in the background. Although the natural light in the photo is subdued, it radiates the vibrancy and energy of the children playing in a rather poor residential area. A fleeting beautiful moment captured forever.
Info: The photo is from the series "D'un Jour, L'autre" by Belgian photographer Martine Franck (1938-2012), a collection of over a hundred pictures. These are her favorite photos from her 30-year career. Martine Franck was also the wife of the famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, but her narrative style is different. $Photography. A breathtaking color photo of a glacial landscape in New Zealand in winter. The aerial view shows the branching glacial Tasman River on the South Island as it flows over the glacial moraine into Lake Pukaki. The branching thin channels of the Tasman, Godley and Cass rivers form a breathtaking tapestry of turquoise hues against the snow-covered landscape. Like a painting, the different shades of turquoise flow in long, gentle waves from the top to the bottom of the picture, where they merge into a narrow strip. Prominent snow-capped mountains (Aoraki/Mount Cook) appear in the distance, majestically framing the terrain. A breathtaking photo in the colors blue/turquoise and white with a certain drama and a skillful perspective that makes the picture appear almost two-dimensional. Info: The multi-award-winning photo was taken by Stuart Chape. He specializes in aerial photography of landscapes from helicopters and light aircraft, but portraits as well as documentary and social photography are also an important part of his portfolio. The blue coloration of the water in the photo is caused by the refraction of light on fine particles of silt or "glacial flour" in the water, created by glacial erosion.$

Streetartwall. A funny mural with two comic figures was sprayed on a small wall next to a store. The figures (called Gouzou's), are little yellow men without facial expressions, hands or feet, designed by the artist Jace. A Gouzou in jeans and a white T-shirt stands on a red ladder and wants to stick a red letter (a large "E") on the wall. A female Gouzou in a red skirt, striped T-shirt and with sunglasses, hands him the letter. They are working hard to prepare for Valentine's Day, because the wall already says LOV. Very sweet, very colorful and a wonderful message.
Info: This is just one of many small murals of "Jace" in February 2025 in a shopping center that is laid out like an artificial village, consisting of a marketplace with many small houses with stores around it.

Streetart. A self-designed poster with a message about Elon Musk was put up on a rentable billboard in New York. The poster shows a drawn Elon Musk with his arm raised. The figure is crossed out with a red line. Above it is the text: "Help Eliminate Elon...", below it the sign of the US aid agency and the text: "...from the American people" and the hashtag: Eliminate Elon.
Info: The Trump administration wants to withdraw the employees of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) worldwide (in 60 country and regional missions) - with a few exceptions. He wants to eliminate the USAID agency. USAID has 10,000 employees. The decision to withdraw and lay off USAID employees and their families will likely cost the government millions of dollars in travel and relocation costs.

Photography. A color photoglnwith a little trick of a black/white cat on a stone staircase with passers-by. In the photo, the cat is standing in a corner on a green background, but the legs of the passers-by walking on the stairs can be seen horizontally. A little trick by the photographer, because it is not the cat or the passers-by who are defying gravity, but the animal is lying on the stairs and the green ground is actually the side wall. The photo has been tilted and this little effect makes it a very special cat photo. The chilly cat is looking directly at the photographer.

Streetartwall. A beautiful mural of a lion's head peeking out from colorful flowers was painted on a long wall in a Brooklyn school. The photo shows just a section of a long wall in the schoolyard, with different colored flowers, leaves and vines, in the middle of which a friendly-looking lion's head appears. Simply wonderful colors and great painting.

Streetart. A mural of a somewhat confused young man has been spray-painted on a gray concrete pillar. The boy is standing there in white shorts, sneakers and a blue hoodie, his arms hanging down. He is holding a crayon in his hand. "Don't Turn Your Backs on our Future" is written in yellow letters on his blue sweater. He probably wrote the text on it. However, he has the hoodie on backwards and the hood is over his face.
The Artist:
"For a dismissed generation refusing to accept a predetermined future that has already been written for them..."

Photography. A beautiful color photo of a coastal landscape in Normandy at sunset. In the foreground you can see a long, cobbled pier stretching straight ahead into the distance. A metal railing runs along the left side of the pier, separating the path from the calm, shining sea. A single short bollard stands on the path, its shadow cast long on the ground by the slanting sunlight. The surface of the water shimmers in various shades of blue and reflects the sun's rays as they shine over a steep cliff in the background. The photo conveys a wonderful moment of stillness and warmth.

Streetartwall. A colorful mural with two women was sprayed/painted on the outside wall of a four-story (19,5 x 7 Meters) modern building with small round windows. The mural is very unusual and designed in different pastel colors. The depiction of an elderly lady and a young girl overlap semi-transparently. The older lady is looking to the left and is depicted in pink. Only her face is kept colorless in shades of grey. A young girl with brown hair is leaning on her shoulder and looking towards the viewer. Her colors are pink and blue. The colors overlap and are disturbed by neon green graffiti lines. Blue skyscrapers are painted in the background and a bright rectangle in the corner shows a pink orchid. A beautiful and harmonious arrangement that conveys a sense of family, conversation and closeness. (In the photo, the artist is standing at a corner of the house.)

Photography. A black and white photo of the back of a pair of light-colored, wrinkled suit trousers. The trousers also have pockets at the back with small buttons as fasteners. The trousers are spread out, the many folds and the buttons (eyes) make the whole thing look like a wrinkled face with a long nose and mouth. A very nice photo as an example of pareidolia, a phenomenon in which people see faces or other patterns in normal everyday objects.

Streetartwall. A satirical mural of the American Statue of Liberty was sprayed with stencils on a narrow black exterior wall next to a store. The green lady wears a robe, a crown with seven points and holds a torch in her right hand. In her left hand, however, she is not holding the American Declaration of Independence, but an open book entitled "Women's Reproductive Rights". Lady Liberty's sad gaze is directed at the book.

Streetartwall. A colorful comic mural with a cute bulldog was sprayed/painted on the concrete wall of a bridge pillar. The background is dark brown. The funny cartoon dog jumps happily in the air and wears a chain with the golden letter "N" for "Nestor" around his neck. His woolly hat is flying in the air over his head and his dog lead is twirling around. The photo also shows the "real" Nestor, a small French bulldog, standing in front of the wall. It is the artist's dog.

Photography. A surreal-looking black and white photo of a young woman. The self-portrait shows a young dark-haired woman in a dark ball gown. You can see her up to her shoulders. She is looking into the camera, but with an elegant hand movement holds a large, misshapen piece of paper with a photo in front of her face. The cut-out shows her eye and part of her nose, but is slightly larger than her real face. The result is a surreal image that plays with different identities, perspectives and expectations. The title: "Monocle" also reflects this.
Info: Anna Karvounari is a photographer based in Athens, Greece. Her conceptual self-portraits play with her own identity and her surroundings. The photos are real and not edited with Photoshop or artificial intelligence.
