Not enough people take seriously "funding delays"/"bureaucratic nonsense can kill people" but here it is right here. If I was mad when a patient died because it took a few extra months for lawyers to try to look for a legal basis for an international data transfer, I'm incandescent, now.

NIH funding cuts delayed a promising childhood brain cancer trial. Patients lost time they didn't have
A delayed clinical trial underscores the stakes of federal research funding cuts for children with DIPG, a deadly brain tumor with few treatment options.

I felt this living in London. Obviously US politics are a dumpster fire but Uk politics, while not equally insane, are still up there. I can understand taking offense to the comparison but you can’t really look at what’s been happening in the UK for at least the last 10 years and think it’s normal!

Today we are launching a new intitative of Stand With Minnesota—KeepMNHoused.com, a rent-relief campaign backed with a $1.5 matching fund from the Wilson Foundation. Thousands of MN families are at risk of eviction because of the ICE occupation’s lasting impacts. We can keep them housed.
Keep Minnesota Housed!
Much of the medía has left, but ICE is still in Minnesota and hundreds of families need help with rent in order to avoid eviction.
Visit keepMNhoused.com to adopt a rent or donate to rent funds!

There are two parts of this article: 1 - Historical funding trends & Congressional appropriations. * Requires a longer conversation on levers of power 2 - "The Republicans Made Peace With Science". * No, they did not & no they have not. This requires more than a conversation, but a reset. 🧵

Please keep in mind that ICE still hasn't left Minnesota and many of our neighbors are still living in fear. If you're able, please consider donating to one of the many aid funds listed at standwithminnesota.com. Thank you again! 💖

Look ok is a lot of poetry bad? Yes. But now there’s so much to love out there now, from vibrant and lush to aching and haunting. Especially in contemporary poetry as so many more voices make it to publication now than before (aka not just white men).

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen. He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.

Truly awful. The intramural program supports so much exploratory work that happens basically nowhere else including my PhD. It’s a jewel that attracts scientists from all over the world to attempt their dream experiments. Please call your congress person about this if you can.

This is devastating. The NIH plays an important role in coordinating trials across the country. Do you have a loved one in a clinical trial? It might be stopped due to these cuts. Call your representatives! Let them know you care about science and developing life saving treatments!

This move will decimate not just budgets but all research. This means more children dying of preventable diseases and more people looking for hope having it pulled away. If you can please raise this with your congress person. This action is basically being pro-disease.
