1 in 5 older people in England and Wales has cut how much water they use because of costs 🚰 Nobody should have to ration this essential to get by but that's the case for too many. Sign the #TappedOut petition to call for change: campaigns.independentage.org/page/1…
TV chef Rustie Lee tilts her head slightly as she grins, she has short black hair and wears a bright patterned orange shirt and chunky necklace. A quote from her reads: "More needs to be done to protect older people on low incomes from rising water bills. I hope for a future where nobody has to ration their water usage because their bills are too high."

The #OlderScotlandIndex26 with Diffley Partnership shows that 1 in 5 older people has an income of less than £15,000 a year. This is particularly concerning given the rising cost of living and is resulting in pensioners cutting essentials to get by. www.independentage.org/policy-and-r...
A map of Scotland has icons coming off it to represent gender, housing, and income. Text reads: Older People’s Economic Wellbeing Index: Scotland 2026. The second instalment of Independent Age’s Index reveals disappointingly little progress as 1 in 5 older people face an income of less than £15,000 a year. The UK and Scottish governments can and must work together to end this growing issue.

Let's tackle a common misconception: lots of people on Universal Credit have jobs. Bills are rising, rents are sky-high, food prices are by 37% - and wages don't stretch to cover it all nowadays. Even with a Universal Credit top up, people still can't afford everything they need to live.

Dr. Patricia Bath overcame sexism, racism & poverty and saved the sight of millions of people. She invented the Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment, 1986; it was patented in 1988. She co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, 1976. She died #OTD in 2019. #WomenInSTEM
A vibrant color historical photograph capturing the brilliant ophthalmologist, inventor, and academic Dr. Patricia Era Bath (1942–2019) in an office or laboratory setting, radiating an aura of confident intelligence and warm approachability. Occupying the center and right of the shot, Dr. Bath sits facing forward, smiling brightly with a direct, engaging gaze at the camera. She is dressed in a professional white medical lab coat—subtly embroidered with "Dr. Bath" in red cursive on the left lapel—worn over a light blue button-down denim shirt and accented by a polished gold chain necklace. Pens are visible tucked into her left coat pocket. Positioned prominently to her right on the left side of the frame is a large, white medical laboratory microscope or ophthalmic imaging equipment with black eye-pieces. The background shows a white wooden bookshelf packed with colorful medical texts, binders, and stacked papers. This portrait carries immense historical significance, honoring a legendary trailblazer in STEM who became the first Black female doctor to patent a medical device—the revolutionary Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment—fundamentally restoring sight to millions worldwide.
