Damn, and thanks, and yes, frustrating indeed.

So many questions... How do we know there were 346? Lost when? Lost how? 1868 in Transit from Baghdad, or rather sold by a museum in 2011?

Yes, 'simple life' translates into an opt-out of solidarity, society and emphathy, which only halfway healthy young men ever can do, and end up bewildered and angry once they need societies support again in later life.

www.cnn.com/2026/09/27/a... This is the first of many future reminders that the world came to South Korea’s defense in 1950 and saved it from invasion. But when Ukraine was invaded in 2022, South Korea shrugged.

Having just started teaching new undergraduates at uni, I think we're missing a key issue in the debate about AI: these kids do not know how *not* to use AI, full stop. We assume they are 'digital natives' but they are not and a Google Scholar search is as alien to them as an archival card-index.

There seem to be an awful lot of media absolving yoi from responsibility for whatever you did, or what you failed at, or what you aren't these days. All replaicing guilt by shame, shame by nothing.

Doesn't it get tiresome adding 'lol' to every reply? Is that the way you spent your time, mocking ppl you disagree by making things up?

...party affiilation is much less important. They might know Barrack was a democrat, still he expanded the drone attacks in Afghanistan and the middle east.
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 22/09/2026
I may have made myself not clear enough maybe: Knowing is not caring. My point was that US foreign politics were up to 2024 pretty consistent. Yes, the conservatives started Iraq and Afghanistan, but democratic administrations have their share of wars and interventions, and for the victims....

The chart on the US' president popularity abroad was posted thrice in this thread, and in the absence of new arguments I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Wolf @ametria.org · 22/09/2026
Agreed, Trump is pushing that to the limit or, lets say, his second regime is such a disaster you might be right. Also, the original picture seems to have been deleted by now.

Wolf @ametria.org · 22/09/2026
I do not disagree at all, but still would argue that for many the difference matters very little. And please don't post that Trump popularity chart, too :)

Wolf @ametria.org · 22/09/2026
I'm not from the US and need to wash my hands off a lot of other things, sorry. And I am not saying they don't KNOW, I am saying precicely b/c of the scale of the suffering the party affiliation won't matter (much). I am aware of differences in foreign policy of dem/rep presidents.

Y'all posting the same graph on how Tump is internationally disliked. Bush was disliked, Barack popular despite intensifiying the drone strike campaign. That doesn't realy matter that much. I concede Trump is extreme, bit the picture could havw been posted 30 years ago and had the same response.

Having the experience for the very first time that people comment in droves under on of my posts is exiting and sobering at the same time. Most seem not to get the point I was trying to make, which makes me question my English skills. Is that how it feels for people with a following every day?
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I do not quite follow I'm afraid. Most peoples have a rather long memory when it comes to being invaded. Ask any Europen, or maybe a native Indian, if thats closer.

Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
It is too late for me to calculate that in my head now :) But yes, my argument was that the US had a relatively stable foreign policy since 1944. So?

Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026

... similar to a fashion company hoisting the rainbow during pride month while continuing to exploit and sexualize people. I thought it interesting how differently reacted to the 'meme'.

Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I agree that Trump is pushing it to the limit, however, internationally there were quite a lot of people pointing out those 'imperfections' (Vietnam, Grenada, Panama... long list), and internationally this has often been viewed as propaganda - hence the second bomber...
200
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I am aware of these differences. Until Trump, however, the differences between presidents from an international POV are much smaller (Obama ordered far more drone strikes than Bush for example). And that international relations have longer traditions than the elwction cycle can be a good thing.
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
This is not a popularity contest, I am well aware how Trump is destroying the system the US built after WW2. My argument was about the difference in domestic vs international perception.
100
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
Obama also tripled the number of drone attacks, I am sure lots of people remember those. Kennedy sent more SF, arms and advisors to Vietnam. This is not a presidential beauty contest. I agree that Trump is horrible and Harris or even Sanders would do a better job. My post was about perception.

Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
Its had not to answer with more snark, and late over here, so please forgive any more typos. My point is that US foreign policy did not fundamentally change from 1944 to 2016, and the party affiliation of the president matters a lot less internationally (which isnt really a surprise).
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
...and this national strategy shapes international perception of the US, not the party affiliation of the administration. Yes, Bush and Clintons foreign policy differed, but gradually, not fundamentally.
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I was pointing out how the same picture elicits completely different responses from international readers vs US viewers, and funny enough have been hit with a wall of replies by ppl from the US being somehow angry that stating that US national strategy stays relatively stable (until 2026)
100
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I am happy to give Biden credit, my point still is that for the affected people his party affiliation did not matter.
010
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I do not dispute that, but do you really think that after 20 years or or so of death raining from the sky people will think "oh yeah, thanks for the three year break, kind democrat"? And selling Afghanistan as a political success ... difficult I'd say.
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
I am not talking about approval ratings of your presidents abroad, or how people like the US. Both matters much less for political desicions than you presume with that graph.
000
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
Where do I say that?
100
Wolf @ametria.org · 21/09/2026
They are definitly not the same. My point was that the difference often (not always) doesn't matter that much to the rest of the world.
