I'll be a vendor at Pride in the Park on Sept. 5th. Noon-6pm, Riverside Park, La Crosse WI. It'll be my first time selling outdoors. I've got a bold purple canopy/tent, so I'll be easy to find. The canopy is also my kids' school color, so it's multipurpose.

In 2017, I decided to make blue dragonscale cosplay armor to wear to Gen Con. Each scale was hand cut, heat shaped, painted, and sewn onto the armor. I sometimes overdo things when I try something new. I gave extra dragon scales away to kids at the con. It still hangs in my office. #gencon

Creating new content for tabletop RPGs is part creative writing (so you can help people imagine that new thing) and part technical writing (so you can get that new thing to work within the mechanics of your chosen game system). #ttrpg #writing #dnd #dragon

Time for another D&D 5e homebrew inspired by random words somebody gave me at a gaming convention. This one is a painful spear that might hurt more coming out than going in. #dnd #ttrpg #convention
Image contains text describing a magical weapon:

Shrike
Weapon (spear), rare (requires attunement)
This spear has a handle whittled from sun-bleached wood and a barbed head carved from whale bone. On each side of the spearhead is the image of a shrike. It once belonged to Bloody Sara, an infamous pirate.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it.

When you hit a creature with the spear, you can choose to impale the target, leaving the barbed spear in the target.

At the start of each of the impaled target's turns, the target bleeds heavily, takes 1d6 piercing damage, and its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of its next turn.

A creature can use its action to remove the spear from the target, which deals 2d6 piercing damage to the target.

If you are within 60 feet of the spear, you can use a bonus action to call the spear, which flies to your empty hand. If a creature is impaled by the spear when it is called, that creature takes 1d6 piercing damage.

I'm writing my 2nd big D&D supplement. One of the chapters has points of interest DMs/GMs can drop into their games. Sometimes game content starts with pairs of words from a random word generator, which I turn into basic ideas, and I'll later make those into finished written materials. No AI here.

For a whole month, I created daily, underground-themed D&D 5e homebrew stuff. Day 12 was this magic weapon that turns solid stone into gravel. Patreon members got this a month ago. Everything I make gets shared at amethyst-dragon.com. 800+ are free for everybody. #dnd #ttrpg #homebrew #mining
Image contains text describing a D&D magic item:

Stonecracker
Weapon (heavy war pick), rare

This weapon has an adamantine head and a handle carved from dragon bone. It is always cool to the touch, and the weapon never shows signs of wear or corrosion.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it. The pick deals an additional 1d10 piercing damage to creatures, objects, and structures made primarily of stone.

As an action, you can use the pick to dig out a 5-foot high, 5-foot wide, 1-foot deep section of unworked stone. The stone that was in that space immediately shatters into gravel.

It is unaffected by magic or effects that alter its temperature or cause rusting or other corrosion.

Throwback to Treasure Tuseday 34 (out of 100). This is an item with a story that can be used as loot or collector's item. It's not a magic item, but it is valuable to to the right people. All the other such D&D treasures I made are at amethyst-dragon.com. #dnd #ttrpg #treasure #presto
Albert's Hat
Treasure
This hat, made from green silk over an inner layer of leather, holds a shape that is popular with many wizards: a conical upper portion with a slight bend to it, surrounded by a wide brim. The underside of the brim has various runes stitched into it with silvery thread that, when read even with the help of magic, don't actually have any known meaning. The inside of the hat has two overlapping pieces of dark black fabric that conceal the space closer to the point of the hat.
This hat was once owned by Albert the Magician, a well-known entertainer who performed simple magic tricks for children on street corners. The elderly man's performances always ended with candy appearing from his supposedly empty hat, which he gave to his audience.
Some of the children who had been entertained by the magician over the years would go on to become apprentices to local wizards.
There were rumors that Albert was actually a powerful wizard himself, as he certainly looked the part. Nobody knew where the magician went or what he did when he wasn't entertaining children in the street.
One day, nearly 30 years ago, the town was attacked by a dragon. This hat was left behind when Albert ran toward the commotion. The magician was never seen again.
Value: 10 gp to 500 gp

I was given 3 random words at a gaming convention: dream, fire, and baseball. I made this magical club with a campfire theme that returns ranged attacks and puts some heat on them. I make new stuff constantly, and it's all found at amethyst-dragon.com. #dnd #ttrpg #baseball #campfire
Image contains text describing a D&D magic item:

Warm Returns
Weapon (club), rare
This is a 3-foot long piece of wood that looks and smells like it was pulled from an extinguished campfire. One half of the wood is a little narrower than the rest of it, though there is a wider knob at that end. A strip of leather has been wrapped around the narrowest 1/3 of the wood to form a grip.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it. On a hit, the club deals an additional 1d4 fire damage.

As a reaction when you are attacked with a thrown or ranged weapon, you can make an attack roll with the club with advantage. If your attack roll is higher than the attacker's, the thrown weapon or ammunition is ignited and reflected back at the attacker. If your attack roll hits the attacker's AC, the attacker takes the damage from the weapon or ammunition, plus 2d4 fire damage.

If you place this club in a burning campfire and take a long rest within 10 feet of that fire, you experience pleasant dreams during the rest and wake with 1d4 temporary hit points. The club is unaffected by fire.

If your PCs like to help people and/or solve crimes, this little plot hook/starter may come in handy. Inspired by 3 random words from a person at a convention: time, fluff, autumn. There are more hooks like this at amethyst-dragon.com. #dnd #ttrpg #quilt
The Quiltening
story starter

Each year, on the day of the autumnal equinox, the small farming village of Battingbrook has a traditional day of celebration of the passage of another year and the approach of winter, which they call Renewal Day. The children of the village call it Fluff Day.

For months out of the year, children of the village are tasked with gathering and keeping soft feathers, soft fur, cattail fluff, and dry milkweed seed pods. The evening before Renewal Day, all of the gathered materials are brought to the great hall, a large, indoor gathering place in the center of Battingbrook.

On Renewal Day, the people gather together to remove the stuffing and batting from all of the pillows and quilts they possess, then refill those objects with the fresh supply of fluffy, insulating materials gathered by the children. While this is happening, children play games, musicians perform, and the community shares meals together as they prepare for the coming winter.

Today is Renewal Day, but there is a disastrous problem. The entire collection of fluffy materials disappeared during the night.

Today is day 28 of Road-vember, an entire month of daily, travel-related D&D #homebrew creation. This sled was inspired by this weekend's upcoming winter storm. www.patreon.com/posts/144622... Everything I make is listed and linked at amethyst-dragon.com. #dnd #ttrpg #winter #travel #snow
Image contains text describing a D&D magic item:

Ghost-Drawn Sled
Wondrous item, rare

This sled is made to be pulled over snow by a team of specially trained dogs. The sled is large enough to hold 1 Medium passenger and 1 Medium driver. It weighs 50 pounds.

As an action, you can cause the sled to call forth 10 ghost sled dogs, which appear already harnessed to the sled.

The ghostly dogs can pull up to 1,500 pounds, can travel for up to 12 hours without tiring, and are unaffected by cold temperatures. The team of dogs is considered one undead creature with 10 hit points and an AC of 10. The only action the dogs can take is to pull the sled.

You can use the sled's magic again after the next sunrise.

Supernatural Disguise Kit
Wondrous item, uncommon

This appears to be a typical disguise kit, stocked with the usual assortment of cosmetics, hair dye, and small props that you can use to alter your appearance. Each object within the kit displays a faint green iridescence in bright light.

When you use this kit to apply a disguise, which takes 1 minute, you can expend 1 charge from the kit to cast disguise self on yourself or on another humanoid. You determine the target's appearance. The spell's effects last for 8 hours or until the person disguised uses an action to end the spell.

The Investigation skill DC to discern that a creature is disguised by this kit is 15. If you use the kit to magically disguise a creature as an undead humanoid, a lycanthrope, a hag, or a fey creature, the Investigation DC is 19.

The kit has 7 charges. It regains 1 expended charge each day, 1 hour before sunset.

A month ago my Patreon patrons got this spell. Now it's free for everyone. The spell was inspired by my sacrificing of an hour and a half of my time to watch that "classic" 80s anti-D&D movie, Mazes and Monsters. Older movies and media are sometimes #homebrew inspiration. #dnd #ttrpg #movie
Image contains a D&D spell description:

Graven Eye of Timmor
3rd-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (15-foot radius)
Components: V, S, M (an orange crystal with an eye carved on it worth at least 100 gp)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You hold forth the material component and project an aura of faintly sparkling magic around you to a distance of 15 feet.

Each creature that is hostile to you that enters the area or begins its turn there must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or else it must immediately move outside the spell's area and can't enter it again until the start of its next turn.

Window of Opportunity

This shield is made from what appears to be three large, overlapping, transparent leaves supported on a thin wooden frame. Each 4-foot long, oblong piece is the inner layer of a window tree leaf, which has been magically reinforced and hardened. The leaves overlap to form a point at the bottom of the shield, and they make three points that spread upward. The shield weighs 2 pounds.

The magic bound within this shield makes you alert and attentive to the briefest of opportunities for movement and attacking.</p>

As a bonus action, you can move up to 15 feet. While doing this, you can move through the space of a Large or smaller creature without expending additional movement.</p>

When a creature that is within 5 feet of you moves at least 5 feet&mdash;toward you, away from you, or still within your reach&mdash;you can use your reaction to make a single melee weapon or unarmed strike attack against that creature.

Image contains a D&D spell description:

Fantastical Harvest
3rd-level transmutation
Casting Time:</strong> 1 minute
Range:</strong> 30 feet
Components:</strong> V, S, M (1 or more examples of ripe produce, which the spell consumes)
Duration:</strong> Concentration, up to 1 hour

You select a point you can see within range and call ripe produce to that location.

Every type of ripe fruit, vegetable, grain, nut, and fungus that you used as material components, if within a 120-foot radius of the chosen location, is gently harvested and moved through the air to that location.

The produce moves slowly and gently, 5 feet above the ground, until it reaches the chosen point. It is unable to cause damage to itself, or to creatures and objects in the area. It takes 1 hour for the produce from the far edges of the spell's area to reach the center.

If the spell ends early, any produce that hasn't reached the point you selected falls harmlessly to the ground, which may damage the produce.

Window Tree
Plant

This species of tree is found in old growth forests, where it lives below the canopy of much taller trees. A window tree grows no more than 20 feet in height and has large, sturdy, oblong leaves that can reach up to 2 feet in width and 4 feet in length. The leaves are relatively thick.

Harvested while still green, the leaves of the window tree can be dried flat in the sun for several weeks. Once dried, the outer layers of each leaf can be peeled away, revealing a stiff, transparent material with traces of leaf veining.

This material is often secured in window frames, providing a barrier to the elements that allows in large amounts of light. These leaf windows can last up to 5 years before becoming clouded and flaking away.

The leaves of the window tree are an affordable alternative to much more expensive glass windows.

Hall of Visitors
Magical Point of Interest

Entering the grand entrance hall to the palace, you find the space is lined on both sides by large, thick panes of glass, behind which are a large variety of people, most of them dressed in fine clothing, standing perfectly still. Next to one of them is an orange-furred cat, which is also motionless.

As you gaze at the people, one of the figures nearest the entrance vanishes, and the others on that side of the hall step in that direction to fill in the space.

Continuing onward toward the interior of the palace, you hear another person enter the hall behind you. The man, garbed in clothing suited for long hours on horseback, declares himself to be a messenger with an important missive for one of the queen's advisors. When you turn your attention back to reaching your destination within the palace, you witness a new person appear behind the glass on your right. It's the messenger.

It's at this moment that, glancing to your left, you come face to face with yourself, standing motionless behind glass. Every detail of your appearance is there, from the pattern in the fabric of your clothing to the barely noticeable freckle on your left hand to the trace of your last meal that you didn't realize was visible on your chin.

When you ask one of the palace attendants, you are told that the magic of the hall creates an illusion showing every creature that has passed through the palace entrance in the last 24 hours. Apparently there are some people who visit each day, entertained by the novelty of seeing themselves in a way that isn't a mirror.

First D&D #homebrew gift for Critmas in July 2025 is done. A patron gave me a single word prompt for inspiration: construction The result is this spell for gathering skilled laborers for a project. #dnd #dnd5e #ttrpg #dungeonsanddragons #critmas #xmas #inspired
Image contains a D&D spell description:

Call to Construction
2nd-level enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (5-mile radius)
Components: V, S, M (a detailed drawing of a structure, which the spell consumes)
Duration: Concentration, up to 8 hours

You send out a summons for available laborers with the skills you require for creating a structure.

You decide on the skills needed for your construction project. This spell can target those proficient with your choices from carpenters' tools, glassblowers' tools, leatherworkers' tools, masons' tools, weavers' tools, and woodcarvers' tools.

Every humanoid within a 5-mile radius of you, if they are proficient with the desired tools and if they are not currently working on a project, feels drawn to your current location. Any such available laborers make their way to you, bringing the tools of their trade with them.

When such a worker appears, they will offer their services for a fee that is reasonable for the area and for their skills.

A month ago I made a set of magical crutches, because sometimes D&D characters end up with difficulty moving (due to player roleplaying choice or DMs using lingering injuries rules). This is now free for people who aren't my Patreon patrons. amethyst-dragon.com #dnd #ttrpg #dnd5e
Image contains text describing a D&D magic item:

Acrobatic Crutches
Wondrous item, rare

This is a matched pair of wooden crutches. The wood is very light in weight and stained a dark brown. The top of each is wrapped with quilted fabric. The surfaces of the crutches are easy to grip, even when wet with water or oil. Each crutch weighs 1 pound.

When you use a single crutch to help you move, you do not have disadvantage on Acrobatics checks. When you use both crutches, you have advantage on Acrobatics checks.

You can use one or both crutches in combat. Each is a simple melee weapon that is magical, has the Light and Finesse properties, and deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage on a hit.

You have advantage on any ability checks or saving throws you make to prevent the crutches from being removed from your grasp.

Yo! I found that book you were looking for. Yeah, the huge one with everything in it. The guy that has it even sells it for 2/3 of what that same amount of new D&D stuff would cost from WotC. Yup, he's got a few copies. You can get hold of one at amethyst-dragon.com/book. #dnd #ttrpg #dnd5e

Galahad's Grandfather's Bagpipes
Treasure

This set of bagpipes is made from ebony and the hide of a sheep. The pipes are decorated with braided ribbons of various colors, and patches and stitches on the bag show it has been skillfully repaired a dozen times.

This musical instrument was last owned by Galahad Volfree, an adventurous paladin. Galahad was given the bagpipes by his father, who was given them by his father. The ribbons represent the heraldry of various lands that the bagpipes have been carried through over the years.

Galahad was known to practice with the bagpipes at least once each day, often while he and his companions took time to rest after a long march or harsh battle. Unfortunately, Galahad possessed neither the coordination nor the talent to produce actual music with the instrument.

One of Galahad's companions, a rogue named Gillian, did discover that her interrogations of bandits and other ne'er-do-wells progressed faster and with better results if she waited to do her questioning until Galahad started his after-battle music practice.

Yamana Golden Bonsai
Treasure

This is a golden needle pine tree that is a miniature replica of a full-grown tree. The needles are a bright yellow in color during 3/4 of the year and are a dark green the remaining months. It is kept in a small, shallow, white ceramic pot filled with soil, pebbles, and bits of dark green moss.

This living tree has been kept small through specialized methods of pruning, grafting, and needle trimming, along with specific amounts of sunlight, water, compost, and exposure to the outdoor elements.

The has been kept by the Yamana family for at least 400 years. It has been passed down through the generations, with the younger generations always getting at least 10 years of training in how to properly care for the small, yellow tree.

While not the only known bonsai, this is the only known example of a golden needle pine bonsai.

Today is both day 6 of #May-Bee and #TreasureTuesday #98, so I made up a gold pendant that was wax cast using honeycomb. You can follow along during the creation process here: www.twitch.tv/the_amethyst... Everything is at amethyst-dragon.com #dnd #ttrpg #treasure #bee
Image contains text:

Honeycomb Pendant
Treasure

This is an oval shaped pendant, inside of which is a honeycomb structure. The honeycomb is not perfectly smooth. The back of the pendant is polished and etched with words in Gnomish that translate as, "For my sweetest Honey." The pendant is about 1 1/2 inches tall, 1 inch wide, and 1/2 inch thick. It hangs on a leather cord and weighs 1/4 pound.

This golden jewelry was commissioned by a gnome beekeeper named Mellifera Apis. The pendant was formed using real honeycomb in a jewelry making process called wax casting, which exactly reproduces the shape of whatever wax was used in a mold.

Made as a gift for Mellifera's wife, Asali, this pendant was both a token of love and a reminder of an interest they both shared.

The honeycomb pendant was stolen one night during a goblin raid on the couple's beehives. While fighting off the goblins, one of the raiders cut the pendant from the cord Asali wore it on.

This stuffed toy was so treasured by an adventurer that a dragon was willing to take it in trade. This is my 97th #TreasureTuesday creation. The rest of these free #treasure items are at www.amethyst-dragon.com. #dnd #dnd5e #ttrpg #dungeonsanddragons #pathfinder #loot

Hoo the Owlbear
Treasure

This stuffed animal toy is made to look like an owlbear by someone who had only a vague description to model it after. It is clearly a teddy bear with a vaguely owl-like head. It is also very worn out, with threadbare fabric, a couple of small patches, a need for new stuffing, and only a single yellow button painted to look like an owl's eye. It is also a little bit dirty.

The toy owlbear was originally sewn for a young child named Helena Vithrum by her grandmother. Helena carried the stuffed monster, which she named Hoo, with her everywhere for several years before it mysteriously disappeared.

When Helena was a young woman setting out for a life of adventuring, she found the owlbear toy buried with her father's old sword and shield. Hoo joined Helena on her first journeys as a reminder of home.

The last time the stuffed owlbear toy was seen by Helena Vithrum, it was traded to a dragon in return for sparing the life of one of her adventuring party.
