I know I'm late but uh. well, #WIPSnips (first draft of chapter 3 of Gilded Cage)

“It must be there, then,” Hanato said.

“Uh, yep,” Ichiko said in a disgusted tone. Makoto walked closer and saw what had gotten her attention.

It was a dead body.

It was hard to tell the condition of it in the dark, but it was half-submerged in water.

“...We should probably leave it alone,” Makoto suggested.

“Yeah,” Ichiko said, then jumped on the railing. Without wobbling, she dove off of the bridge.

Makoto let out some indescribably confused noise and damn near fell off the bridge trying to find his sister. Ichiko had landed on a platform of nondescript material that she generated. It grew larger under her feet as she walked to the body.

To everyone’s horror, she picked it up, looked at it for a few seconds, then let it drop back into the water.

“It’s not a suicide!” Even when yelling, Ichiko’s voice was quiet from here. “But it’s fresh!”

“How… would she know that?” Hanato asked, disgusted. Koana just shrugged and gritted her teeth.
