Today United Airlines delayed our flight so we’d only have a 15-minute layover in Chicago. I finally talked to a live person who, I thought, was rebooking the second leg of our trip from ORD-DCA. She did do that and also removed the first leg. So now I’m back on the customer service hamster wheel

I
n the 1830s everyone in the USA knew that canal waterways were the future of commerce. Every state started building a canal network with the vision of hooking them all into a national network. In 1837 there was a Great Recession, and the tax base for the canal work collapsed. When the economy recovered 5 years later, the railroad boom was happening and everyone knew that canals were over.
That's why every city in the Midwest has a half-finished canal in it. This is a post about data centers

the new postal truck is an extreme example, but the fundamental tradeoff between car exterior aesthetics and outward visibility is a very direct one... the black pill here is that a nonzero (though hard to calculate/estimate) number of Americans have literally died in the name of cars looking cool

I want to be very clear about something: for OpenAI to be able to pay the deals it has signed it will have to be ten to fifteen times its current revenue and have raised at least another $150 billion. If it fails, Oracle will run out of money, and not pay its debts.

WABA WON
More to come; but the 15th Street Bike Lanes will stay for now!! Here's the conclusion of the 61 page decision ... THANK YOU for your support! Wanted you to hear it from us first ...

CONCLUSION

The Court finds the decision to proceed with the 15th Street Cycle Track Removal to be
arbitrary and capricious because the record does not reflect that the defendants examined the
relevant data and articulated a rational connection between the facts found and the choice made.
It further finds that the defendants’ invocation of the highway modernization categorical exclusion,
and their conclusion that the Removal Project would not have a significant impact on public health
and safety, to be arbitrary and capricious as well. Therefore, the decision to proceed with the
Removal Project as described in the March 31, 2026 NPS Decision Memorandum and the March
31, 2026 NPS and FHWA Categorial Exclusion documents, as well as in the February 23 NPS and
February 27 FHWA Categorical Exclusion documents to the extent they were not rescinded or
nullified but only elaborated upon on March 31, is hereby VACATED and REMANDED to the
National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration. This means, as counsel for the
defendants acknowledged on the record at the hearing, that the decision is null and void, and the
Removal Project may not and will not proceed on April 23, 2026. Given the ruling in plaintiff’s
favor on the merits, plaintiff’s request for interim relief is denied as MOOT.

The senselessness of ripping out the 15th St cycle track is really getting to me today. My commute is going to suck so much. Moving bikes to sidewalks right in the middle of cherry blossom season feels like a particular slap in the face both to cyclists and tourists
