It’s officially spooky season!! We’re starting it off by watching Salem’s Lot (1979). It’s wild to see some famous #FilmNoir actors in this: James Mason, Marie Windsor, Elisha Cook Jr.

I love the different stages of cooking, especially in this vegetable risotto. The slow addition of ingredients, the stirring and waiting and watching. THEN the eating!!! #CookingSky 🍽️

Arborio rice and red onions simmering in oil and butter

The same pot of simmering Arborio rice, now with an added first cup of broth and some broccolini

The pot of Arborio rice, red onion, and broccolini, now with additional broth, edamame, and shredded carrots

The final result: a bowl of tasty vegetable risotto!

This is DEEPLY important! Knowing the why doesn’t create change. We can understand all our whys, how we got here, who contributed, but then we need to behave differently. Knowing why can be helpful; but w/o knowing what to do differently or how to do it, we can keep falling in the same damn hole 😫

I decided to give this AI image thing a chance. I think AI has its uses and I don’t want it to stymie my own creativity. Why am I paying for Canva if I’m not going to use it?! 😂 So I was reminded of this quote today and I asked Gemini to make an image for me. Not bad!

White letters on a light green background state, "One of the most important and growing costs of the modern way of life is 'cultural fraud': the promotion of images and ideals of 'the good life' that serve the economy but do not meet psychological needs." by Richard Eckersley. The lower half shows two contrasting images: on the left is a tall, thin woman holding several shopping bags in front of a sports car; on the right are four people sitting around a table, sharing a meal.

I burned the end of this wooden spoon while cooking recently. I keep using it as a reminder that no one and no thing is perfect. Plus we all make mistakes and they are often survivable. #TherapistSky #DearPerfectionist

Wooden spoon resting in a metal spoon holder on a black & gray granite counter. The handle end of the spoon is burnt.

Status: Home in L.A. & couch planted. I’ll be resting as much as I can this weekend. Many thanks to everyone who offered me & my family your emotional support & systemic advocacy ideas these last two weeks. I’ll share brighter news soon, once my brain resolidifies from its current mush status 💕

Some days I take good care of myself by eating really healthy. Some days taking good care of myself means eating Salsa Verde Doritos with guacamole 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was reminded yesterday of a favorite meal in my home: Shredded Chicken in Green Sauce over Rice. Bc of my exec functioning issues (memory, planning, etc), I keep a preferred recipe list of stuff that’s easy to make. Planning this week’s dinners, I viewed my list for inspo. Saw this & done deal! 🍽️

SoCal has a gnarly heat wave this week (as apparently much of the U.S. does) plus much higher than normal humidity: 47% today, where’s my dry heat?!? So I’m making up a grocery list for all the cool dinners I can think of. Minimal cooking, served cold. Stay hydrated, friends!

We’re catching up on last weekend’s #NoirAlley. I’ve seen #AngelFace a few times and have no clue why I never logged it at @letterboxd.social. Anyway, I love the twists and turns and exquisite darkness of it all.

Movie poster for Angel Face (1952) Robert Mitchum is seen on the left, Jean Simmons the right, with bold red words between them reading “the men she loved she destroyed!”

Really lovely to see a sign like this at the #RedSox game. Way to go Angel Stadium!! #DisabilityPride

An ad for Easter Seals disability services, displayed on the scoreboard at the Red Sox versus Angels baseball game. It has white and blue letters on a red background and reads “everyone with autism belongs.”

July is Disability Pride Month! I have a physical disability (asthma, chronic pain) and a MH one (CPTSD). I am vocal about this bc most people can’t tell by looking at me, so my disabilities are less obvious or visible. Yet I’m passionate about supporting all disabled communities!

Image of the Disability Pride flag, with descriptions for each color:
- Red: physical disabilities
- Gold: Neurodivergence
- White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
- Blue: Mental illness and psychiatric disabilities
- Green: Sensory disabilities
- Black background: Those who have died due to ableism, violence, or neglect

This is the coolest thing ever. Strawberries from my own container garden. Like this FOOD that I grew!!! I don’t have a yard to plant in, but I do have a patio and these little successes are getting me excited for future years and all the things I can grow! 1/2 #GardenSky

NW: On The Beach (1959) Let’s hear it for disaster movies! I’m assuming a lot of this takes place on the submarine, so I wonder if it’s got the “base under siege” vibes I love so much 🤔 #OnTheBeach #TCMParty

When you have an “invisible” disability, peeps love to say things like, “I always forget you have XYZ.” Well Marsha, I don’t get to forget. The air quality is rough in L.A. today thanks to an industrial fire. Thus I’m wearing a KN95 mask so I can still play softball outdoors. #AsthmaLife

Tonight’s classic film with mental health commentary is The Towering Inferno (1974). This one is three hours long 🤯 I’ll post comments in this same thread, so keep your eyes peeled! I’m excited to see Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, AND Faye Dunaway in the same film!

Just when I began thinking that I can’t keep up with all the water a tomato plant needs (thus I will get no tomatoes on my plant), I discovered…a baby tomato!!! Also shown are my TWO cucumbers and a teensy baby strawberry 😍 #GardenSky #ContainerGarden
