My upcoming game from Osprey Games, Midnight Heroes, is a hybrid of FAE and Fate Condensed. I ran FAE for years in my home games and started integrating material from Condensed when it came out. Dresden Accelerated and the Young Centurions games have been a huge influence.

I'm getting an itch to start streaming TTRPGs again. Definitely Fate for the system, but I'd like to visit a collection of ideas. * Star Trek: Maquis—a different take on Voyager. * The Distance—999 years ago your generation ship filled with aliens crashed on a planet without resources for repair.

What happened in Feb of this year? My guess is a change in how data is being recorded.

The Blades in the Dark SRD snapshot, comparing this year and last year. It also has started to see a drop in visitors starting in Feb of this year. The number of people is larger than Fate's but as a percentage it is much smaller.

The Fate SRD snapshot, comparing this year and last year. Starting in Feb of this year the site has seen a significant drop in visitors. Considering the site is 12 years old, I'm not surprised.

First, I pay for Fathom Analytics. It has just enough analytics and does not share the data. Both sites are coded to honor the Do Not Track setting in the browser. I've have almost two years of data for both sites.

It's been a while since I've talked about the Fate and Blades in the Dark SRD sites. Let's look at some analytics.

Being honest though, most of the TTRPGs I've played in the last decade don't have a lot of away from the table experience. Perhaps it is my D&D 3e roots that make me crave spending hours pouring over my PC's level up choices.

Daggerheart has a great play experience at the table. The only drawback to the game is when you're away from the table, there isn't much to ponder about your character. Pathfinder 1e gives me hours of play outside the table as a PC—looking up feats and spells.

I'm four long sessions in and the Daggerheart TTRPG is really scratching my itch for D&D-style play. Creating encounters is easy and fun. Playing it at the table is fast and it keeps the energy up. It helps that I'm converting Curse of the Crimson Throne. It lets me focus just on system stuff.

The monster has chitinous armor and with each hit you remove chunks of it. The monster has "Ceiling 13", meaning all rolls above this number are counted as having rolled a 13. Each hit adds one to this number. Once it reaches 20 the ceiling is removed.

Random TTRPG dice mechanic—setting floors & ceilings for a d20 roll. As a Bard, the lowest you can roll on a d20 is equal to your level. If you roll less than your level, count it as having rolled a value equal to your level. There are certain skills that some classes just shouldn't fail outright.

Play Daggerheart or Pathfinder for a D&D feel. Play Fate, Blades in the Dark, or Brindlewood Bay when you're ready to level up.

I am begging you to please play an RPG that is not Dungeons & Dragons.

I am not telling you to stop playing D&D. I have nothing against D&D, but there are literally thousands of other games from hundreds of other genres that you could also be playing.

Why enjoy one thing when you could enjoy many thing?

For instance, I rolled random loot and turned up Manacles. I wrote some stuff to reinforce the city's love of order. Player (reading card): This must be a campaign item. We'll have to talk to the guards. Me (scribbling furiously): Of course it's a campaign item...
Korvosian Irons (Manacles)

This pair of locking cuffs comes with a key.

Standard-issue restraints of the Korvosan Guard, stamped with the city seal and logged by serial number at Citadel Volshyenek upon manufacture. Heavy iron construction, resistant to tampering, and — as the Guard is fond of noting — entirely legal. Every pair has paperwork. Korvosa always has paperwork.

Will this fact prove interesting? Not today. BUT, it does signal to the players who they may be dealing with. A bunch of goblins with high-end healing potions? Are they backed by a nobleperson? (High-end does not mean more powerful, BTW. It is just a label.)

I started a new campaign. One guiding principle I'm using is that all loot has to have flavor. Something that feeds the story of the world. All of the healing and stamina potions the PCs started with were from the poor part of town. That wizard they took out? He had one from a fancy place.

When it comes to running an TTRPG campaign, one of the best things you can do as a GM is to instill a feeling of the world being lived-in. Sure, my Daggerheart game could just have simple potions but then I would miss out on a great world-building opportunity. Bonus: Get the players to contribute.

Star Trek figured this out thirty years ago. It's not hard. Even an old, drunk Klingon got it.
A set of screenshots from DEEP SPACE NINE. An old Klingon throws his arms around Dax and shouts "Curzon, my beloved old friend!"

Dax returns the hug and says "I'm Jadzia now."

The Klingon grabs her shoulders, smiles, and says "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!"
