I expect they will have. I feel like H&S gets better each time they play it, so I'm excited to see how this season will play out

Pushed through and rewrote all of chapter 7 of SB today—4600 words. But the real news is that I'm finally done with this section of the book that's given me so much trouble. I'm free! (Until my critique group reads it and tells me what's wrong with it lol) #writerlife #writingcommunity #writesky

It has been a while since I've drawn Astrel in her bird form [ #art #oc #ocsky ]
An art of Astrel in her bird form. She has black and red feathers, with two long tail feathers. She is swooping down. She has gold bands on both her ankles and gold jewellery on her head. The background is a simple mix of dark browns and gold. The banner is a gradient red and black with simple patterns that shows gold materials.

Funny enough, I never read Sherlock Holmes until basically right before my friend started writing his own. They're great! And I think he does a good job with them, especially with how he slots his stories in around Holmes' other cases. #StetChat

My style sheets can look *very* messy sometimes before I send them to the author...I gotta work on that because it takes up so much extra time to clean them up 😂

I did *so* much of this for a book I copyedited earlier this year. Learned a lot actually! Too bad it's not information I'll probably ever use myself haha

#StetChat Q5. Hello, I've been lurking today but this will be a fun one for me to answer so I had to jump in! I've done some editing/reading for a friend who writes Sherlock Holmes stories and I always keep The Complete Sherlock Holmes website handy in case I need to check something against it.

I started with using Word docs but I couldn't format them in a way that really felt nice to me and was easy to put new information into. I tried Excel for a trilogy I recently edited and it worked so much better!

A8: Follow HelloFutureMe on YouTube! Tim Hickson has a huge catalog of excellent videos on worldbuilding that go beyond the basic elements. He's also adapted these videos into books for easier referencing. #Stetchat

A7: I try to let the author's choices lead the way as much as possible, especially when it comes to terms they've made up themselves or are using in a specific way for their story. It's their story after all! But I'll give a nudge when needed in order to preserve clarity and consistency. #StetChat

A6: Gotta make good use of that style sheet! I use Excel and have a page for every aspect that's relevant to the manuscript. #StetChat

A4: Not thinking through the implications of their choices. It's easy to get caught up in the fun and not think about the consequences of some of your choices. #StetChat

A3: I think a good map should be fairly simple. If there's too many places shown, especially if they aren't relevant to the story, it can be difficult for readers to orient themselves. UNLESS the map is there more for vibes, in which case it should be full of mystery and whimsy! #StetChat

A2: Maps are always great to have. I actually think a lot of other elements, like character lists, can be intimidating and unhelpful. I'll skim a character list but I never remember who anyone is because I don't have context for them yet. Better to meet them as I go! #StetChat

Working through it! I'm really pleased with today's progress because I found a way to add more significance to this section (rather than it feeling like things happening for the sake of things happening), which should make it much more enjoyable to write.

I've reached one of those sticky spots in my novel that I've never known quite what to do with. Gotta get my characters from one place to another in a way that feels realistic but doesn't take up too much page space (this book is long enough already). I can do this! #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Along with all the other problems surrounding AI's infiltration into writing and publishing--including the difficulty of detection and the lack of disclosure--I think we're in for a period of AI panic where writers will increasingly be baselessly accused (see? I just used em dashes)

LLMs impress the writers who do not want to write, the coders who don't want to code, the researchers who don't want to research, and the lawyers that don't want to actually understand case law. Those that desperately tell you how powerful Al is and that you simply must use it are looking for you to validate their own laziness or distaste for effort, and those who are impressed with LLMs' outputs tend to be people with low standards.

“Use AI to brainstorm but not to write.” “Use AI to help you outline but not to write.” These are commonly proposed as “ethical” ways for undergrad students to use AI, but I’m sorry, brainstorming & outlining are just as integral to writing as the actual construction of sentences.

Sad to hear of John Flanagan's passing. I'm deeply fond of the Ranger's Apprentice series, which really scratched that itch for sneaky, hooded archers. The books have humor and heart and are just a lot of fun to read, and I so adore the characters. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Flanagan ❤️

The scene in question:
"We're gonna be okay, aren't we?" she asked, not sure if she was talking to Jassin or to the stars themselves.

Yet it seemed that both answered, for even as Jassin responded, one star shot across the sky, leaving a trail of glittering dust in its wake.

"We are. We're gonna be okay."
