One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

Almost all your critters are mana dorks in this, which means putting guys on the board makes it easier to play cards, and vice-versa. If you're winning, you keep winning, but if you're losing, you keep losing. That's by design but I do want *some* resiliency and support for comeback plays. 🧵

I think a cheap "bad" creature that generates card draw when killed, or one that allows you to play another cheap card for free, might also be good additions. This would be really egregious in another card game but might work here precisely because creature destruction is also land destruction.

The skeletons were just under the line where I would have given them difficulty recovering from wounds, and it felt a little silly that these boneheads - already quite a good card due to their hellmouth ability - became functionally invulnerable against a struggling player.

Now, this isn't enough. Clearly I need some cheap stabilizers - things that are a little more stubborn, or cost something to remove. And some high-end critters are too strong. These Doctors of Philossify originally had 3 fight & 3 guard (now 1), which made it easy to pick off any new critter.

Doctors of Philossify cannot be protected, or take damage for a Holy drollery. When played, they return one of your burned cards to your hand.

Even if the opponent spends their turn taking out the Mousers & preventing them from actually making aether, that will cost them some tempo - activating resource abilities prevents critters from swinging at enemy cards. And with their speed of "1" the Mousers will get a hit in first.

So on a board where your opponent has some high cost, high aether creatures, dropping a couple of Mousers in a single turn might remove one of them, or prevent something like the Blood Fever Knights from generating aether.

Mousers is pretty weak, and if none of the other player's drolleries are wounded, it will defeat itself immediately. And wounds usually go away at the end of the turn. I say "usually" because the bigger, tougher creatures tend to not remove their wounds or have restrictions on their removal.

Golden Stag doesn't remove wounds, Blood Fever Knights only removes one wound at a time and doesn't generate aether when wounded, Great Snail doesn't recover.

Both these cards have enough drawbacks that it really doesn't make sense to deny them resource-generating abilities. Bullied Bunny really can't be played when you have an empty board, and is prone to being bounced.

Here are two such cards - Mousers and Bullied Bunny. I've given the Mousers the aether ability (that's the circle) and the Bunny a card draw (that's the diamond).

Mousers: when played, this does one damage to a wounded drollery, or one damage to itself.
Bullied Bunny: This drollery cannot attack when you discard a card from your hand. If you ever have no other hares in play, return this card to your hand.

The general rule I was using is, "okay, if the card costs 3 or 4, it can make one aether; if it costs 5 or more, two", with some wiggle room for odd critters. This meant the critters that cost only 2 didn't make aether at all. But because they cost 2, they're already pretty marginal/have drawbacks.

You pay for cards with aether (the resource dorks generate at the start of your turn) and/or discards from your hand. So one way to stabilize is to play cheap, shitty critters with discards. But my cheapest, shittiest critters didn't generate resources, so they don't help stabilize. Time for tweaks!

She eventually gave me a spray bottle full of something (I'm sure mostly water, but it was scented and colored, so she mixed something into it) to keep by my bed that I could spray at Freddy to keep him away. She said she got it from the Ghostbusters. This made sense to little me; he *is* a ghost.

Not quite the question, but: no idea how I became aware of him (because I definitely hadn't seen any of the movies), but somehow I became TERRIFIED of Freddy Krueger as a child. Got email this morning upset about the off-center & faded/rubbed die faces for cross4. When I told him it was on purpose he said he wouldn't buy any games with wood dice from us again. I said "okie dokie, thanks for telling me I guess" & he said I was "flippant" & he was trying to be helpful. 1/3

I sincerely wasn't trying to be flippant. Sorry if it came across that way.

The game's production was carefully planned to capture the "feel" of coming across an older crossword dice game from the seventies fifty years later, and the production issues/fading that come with it.

I understand if that's not your cup of tea. I knew there were people who would not enjoy that choice when I made it. That doesn't change that it does what I intended it to do. So in that sense, while the feedback is well-intentioned and therefore appreciated, it is not necessarily of use. I do not see it as a problem to be solved or improved.
