I think if they do get back on track, I’ll likely grab one when the inevitable PS6 pro releases. Do not foresee getting one prior to that now, even if they do reverse the disc decision. They’ll have to earn myself and many others back as active customers. I genuinely hope they succeed in that.

I do not want it to be that way, so I do hope that Sony gets back on track and that the price of gaming consoles falls back to a more reasonable price next generation. I don’t hold much hope for either though, sadly.

I’ve been a Nintendo gamer for 35 years, since age 2. I’ve been a PlayStation gamer for 23 years, since age 14. I’ve been a XBOX gamer for 22 years, since age 15. I’ve always played on all consoles from 2004 onwards. Unless things change, PS6 will be my first skip in decades.

I think they probably will try to capture that physical audience, but I also think they’ll try to do so in the cheapest way possible. If they do, whether using discs, cartridges, or other means, they’ll almost certainly just be the same as Nintendo’s game key cards. Not “true” physical.

Selling it for a Series X or S does not make sense, I agree. I do think it would at least be a more reasonable decision next gen, given the hybrid nature of the helix. Personally, I would still keep the PS5 for cross gen exclusives and get a helix as my high end device.

I think what seems to be the catalyst for most people is that Sony has just burned the bridge with a number of poor decisions. Plus, if people are losing the option for physical anyway, it makes more sense to get the helix, so you have access to multiple storefronts. Retains choice, to a degree.

Cross gen is very likely to last most, if not all of next gen. Games are so expensive to make now, that outside of glorified tech demos, I wouldn’t really expect any true next gen exclusives. Keep your PS5, unless you absolutely need it to afford a Switch 2 or Helix next gen.

I keep seeing posts about people wanting to sell their PS5 and get a Switch 2 or Xbox instead. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend that. Keep the 5 for cross gen Playstation exclusives and just move to Switch 2 or Helix as your main next gen. So late in the current gen, it’s not worthwhile.

Well, I preordered it the night before release, once the reviews were out, to get that $10 off on Amazon. Probably won’t get to play it until next year though. Which is fine, since Nintendo games take years to go on sale and even then, infrequently.

Astral chain. I’ve waited 7 years to play it, because back then, it still was assumed Nintendo would eventually drop prices to $20 for old games, like every other generation ever. Never happened, of course. So I finally decided to pull the trigger last night and well, so much for that.

Conversely, since I’m stuck with the funds anyway and the game I tried to buy likely won’t be on sale for several months or longer, I may just grab the digital version of Orbitals and play that instead. Would prefer a physical copy, but no point in leaving those funds just sitting there.

If you’re ever on the fence about buying a game on the Nintendo eshop during a sale, make damn sure you don’t decide to purchase it at the actual last minute. Because of how Nintendo handles purchases, you may wind up with $41.99 in wallet funds and no game, if the sale ends during transaction.

The platform holders themselves may suck, but that doesn’t hold true for the games. There are so many great games recently released or on the horizon, not to mention those released in the generation at large. How and where you choose to play them is irrelevant. All that matters is that you do.

Speaking of 50% off, if you don’t already have them, Suikoden 1 and 2 remaster collection is on sale for $25 on PS5. I had never played them prior to a few weeks back and while I can’t yet speak on 2, the first game has been quite fun so far.

Congrats! One of the best gaming experiences of all time. I got the 1000g on Xbox since it was included with gamepass and this will be one I probably buy on PS in a few years for $20, just to run through and get the platinum too. Genuinely wonderful game and I’m glad you got to experience it!

You would think, given the higher cost of the Switch games, that they’d be my primary focus, but no, I’m mainly trying to get through my PS and Xbox backlogs first, since the risk of physical going away is confirmed for PS and likely for Xbox. PS takes priority since no disc to digital program.

Honestly about the same, but pretty much all of those were bought on sale, rather than full price. Only exception being the Resident Evil generations pack for Switch 2. Most of the PlayStation and Xbox games were $30 or less, while the Switch games were $30-$50.

Basically, as long as I play it within the next 2 years, it won’t be a bad purchase. Probably will be a while, given Engage is the game I have inserted into my switch 2 right now. These games are too large to play back to back without getting burned out.
