The queen of hummingbirds spends summers with us. I asked her why she molted early. She said she thought it had been a shitty summer up here with the winds, smoke, derechos, tornados, flooding, & heat. She needed to GTFO. So she left 2 wks ago. She usually hangs till nearly end of October. 🥺

There's a massive amount of cicadas up in the trees in North Chicagoland. What the hell. Which brood is this? There was no alert. And no, they are not our usual summer low numbers. Something is up. Absolutely as ear piercing as the 17 years. These are black/grey/greens not brown/cream/red.
