I withdrew a story from F&SF after a fruitless contract negotiation, and posted about my ordeal here. But it was my understanding MRM had as a result since changed its tune and now includes all I'd asked for in their boilerplate. Hearing your problem worries me. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Absolutely. It is just so sad.

It’s so disheartening!!

Darlings, this is predatory behavior. You should not be approached with this kind of ask. It’s red flags all the way down.

It’s absolutely enraging. I refuse to submit to those venues until they straighten up. Which is a BUMMER.

Yeah, this is absolutely egregious. And I know they’ve done some unsavory things over the past few years. They have promised to do better and then pull things like this. It isn’t okay. (IP stuff like that makes more sense in terms of the ask.)

I am so tired of chasing people around for things. *keens*

Question for any authors who have had recent contract dealings w/ Must Read Magazines & ASIMOV’S. Have they asked you to surrender copyright of your stories to them? They want me to create new cover art & they want to own copyright of the art. Seems like a pretty outrageous rights grab.

Everyone else is really burnt out and fried, right? Because wheeeeew. I am not operating as my best self lately.

Fuckers. That’s all I got. People make the art. People should be supported. This is just infuriating.

Perfect time to preorder my ridiculous vampire novel, FANGS NOT INCLUDED! Then you'll get a lovely surprise when it shows up in May.

The cover of FANGS NOT INCLUDED, with four Indian vampiric girls, one of whom is holding a camera.

Fingers crossed! Please get food while you’re out if you can. So you don’t have to worry about having to warm up the food when you get home.

A very good question! I get so many of them, and it’s really frustrating. Sending good thoughts your way!
