The fact that this poster devolved into using “libtards” and xenophobic language in the comments to try and dunk on drivers that drive too fast and disregard rules and basic courtesy actually gives me hope - we see the same problem and similar solutions, from opposite sides. #safestreets

Perspectives: Calgary knows how to make cycling safer. It's focusing on the wrong things.
Calgary Police kicked off Bike Safety Month with a three-slide Instagram post. Slide one: a title graphic. Slide two: cyclists 14 and up must ride on the road or in bike lanes, not the sidewalk;  obey...

Got my notice to vote in the primaries, I’ll be requesting my absentee ballot. I may have moved away, but I very much want to have a country worth coming back to if that’s the way life goes. #vote

Hurting today remembering my friend gone too soon. Not sure what I’m aiming for with this post other than to say shit happens, and it’s ok to be sad about it.

The thing about accessible cars is even those may be out of reach financially. Accessible public transportation and pathways/active transport options need to be supported and advocated for for those who cannot drive, or cannot afford accessible cars.

Or the $5500 bike that I got ~8 years ago, which has more than made up the cost/km than a car, prevented me from having to buy a new car, pay insurance, gas, etc and only cost me about $300 of maintenance that I couldn’t do myself and negligible electricity costs charge it.

Rode my 32 km ride to work yesterday (and mostly back). A few notes: - the rails to trails path is wonderful. - the to/from the entrance is awful and confusing - the weather radar accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. - the views are ridiculously beautiful and - I need to get back in shape 😅

Yesterday I sort of did a “not all men” on a good good friend. She was going off: - men won’t do childcare - men won’t do house work - men don’t/won’t/can’t However. The men I give my precious time to are, in fact, taking care of the house, the kids, even have taken their wife’s name.

There’s nothing that will convince me that we’re better off boxed away in our individual cars - I talked to a friend half the ride home from drop off, just by lucky timing and not being in cars. More of that, please.

Perfect day of slow “Easter” morning, followed by bicycle and small child shenanigans, with some interim trail improvement work in the middle. Taking tomorrow off and dedicating it to getting the summer cargo bike out; summer rides here we come!

Getting ready to head to the celebration of life for someone who had so much promise, was an undoubted light in a world prone to darkness. 32 is devastatingly young. Never complain to me about age and its related issues. I will tell you off. Too many don’t get the privilege to face it.

Is riding an e bike cheating? No, it's just like doing 20 reps at a low weight instead of 10 at a heavy weight in the gym. You get the exercise anyway. AND you might be more likely to get on the bike in the first place. www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/2586115...

Tuesday night we got a call that a good friend, the kind you’d call if you wanted an adventure, drinks, or if you needed help with your animals, died suddenly in an accident. Hug your friends and loved ones, and live your life to the fullest. We really don’t know how much time we have here.

Waiting for the flu to get me. Kiddo (4) just recovering now with a bit of a cough and runny nose. I’m expecting a full downslide into sickness in a day or two, guaranteed by the full face spray cough received at all hours of the day over the last three days.

Attacking the systems of oppression has never been more important ❤️ Car dependency is indentured servitude designed to force labor to work for the capitalist machine.

Waking up unintentionally at 3am sucks for a few reasons. 1) I know I’ll fail (but try) to get back to sleep. 2) I lie there thinking of my myriad life failures. 3) I stress about my ability to pivot when life hands me lemons (100% success rate so far). 4) I’m so tired the rest of the day.

Short reminder: Vision Zero is a great goal to work on. Day by day. Just by putting people over cars.
Infographic titled "Why Speed Matters" with three sections:

**Top:** Two statistics side by side. Left: "75% — Drivers yield 75% of the time when traveling 20 MPH." Right: "17% — Drivers yield only 17% of the time when traveling 37 MPH."

**Middle:** Two street-view illustrations comparing driver field of vision. Left: Wide, clear field of vision at 15 MPH. Right: Severely narrowed tunnel-like field of vision at 30 to 40 MPH.

**Bottom:** Three panels showing pedestrian survival rates when hit by a vehicle. At 20 MPH: 9 out of 10 pedestrians survive. At 30 MPH: 5 out of 10 pedestrians survive. At 40 MPH: Only 1 out of 10 pedestrians survives.

Trying to coordinate time/place/format for the next active transportation advocate meeting. I am happy to do virtual or in-person. Hybrid however is a format that never works, ruins the conversation, and is irritating for everyone involved.

Trying to make the best of the too-warm weather, I spread out the snow burm onto the dirt to accelerate the melt and placed black pots through the snow. Doing this in February in Canada surely guarantees an extension on our ski season. You’re welcome. #gardening #ski

Only a couple months into winter and I’m just now putting my studded tires on my around town bike. It’s not that I haven’t been riding, exactly, it’s that I’m lucky enough that I live in close enough proximity to most of the things I want to do that I can just walk.

What I find fascinating about being apart of a group of people starting up local active transportation advocacy is that none of us really wants to be the face of it. We all have things to do, but we’re all doing it out of a sense of This Needs to be Better.

Visiting Calgary for a friends’ wedding has reminded me just how much this city doesn’t suit me. My nervous system is already worn out from the drive and now the constant drone of traffic and constant lights is just…jarring. Can’t wait to get back to my small, relatively walkable town.

I cannot express how deeply I hate the “must make big meal for Thanksgiving” trope that’s been thrown on my lap just because. I hate “tradition”. I spent 3 hours cooking yesterday for my kid to throw a fit and for me to somehow still go to bed hungry.
