After 2024 happened, I had to catch up on "The Dangerous Case of" & Hassan's "The Cult of" DJT. I made it thru Ben-Ghiat's "Strongmen", a bit slowly but still interested in more on fascists. Tried fun how-we-got-here stories like "Character Limit". Now the expanded "On Tyrrany" gives a deep lecture.

Yeah that's still where the sole way I've seen is Throne(.com), which does import Amazon wishlists and advertise as "privacy-first"—it's just really oriented around modern streamer guys and so I don't have firsthand experience with it on either end. Seems to be holding strong for years now tho.

All I know is it's supposed to be a standard serious 'foul' designation against a player, but may now be in danger of becoming what you described. Granted the fans had hotly debated whether it was deserved, but they also prefer rules-are-rules over letting a player back in like that's just, normal.

Probably encourage over half the population to GET the next disease, for "natural immunity". Then declare victory on the messaging alone.

Since getting a good size SSD drive is now out of the question, I gotta try to ask people about better backups & storage options, like best corruption-resistant filesystems since I have ~500GB in removable storage but are prone to corrupting/losing files, and such.

Seriously, stealing from my own notes on how to sum up this 'era': Useful institutions will take longer to rebuild than it's taking him to destroy them. "Brain drain" doesn't turn around in a month. But that was back when "kakistocracy" was still a top descriptor of the problems at hand.

My own community college had a small refreshment stand that would drop these kinda leftovers around when it shut down in the evening. Some of us took to studying nearby and quietly picking ourselves a snack when that hour rolled around. 🥐 I lamented when it got phased out in favor of a Starbucks.
