The tragic paradox of democracy is that it has to be continuously promoted and maintained - even to the degree of restricting dissent - by the state, lest the people take it for granted and we fall quickly back into tyranny.

Tbf "Labour should be more like the Tories" is pretty much a succinct description of "Blairite" policy.

There is a very large section of humanity who prefer not to think about complex things, just get on with their lives and seek/create little interference otherwise. For this, they think they are good people. Make them insecure though and they turn to the most basic animalism then claim it as truth.

Fuck it. I've just spent three posts trying to justify why I might dehumanise someone myself. Very much answered my own question. Need to roll that back. Catharsis is a shit excuse.

When someone actually manages to take out Trump, they should say it's "Trump derangement syndrome" that made them do it, so we can all justify leniency.

...casual ignorance, bigotry and poorly grounded hatred of how I view their own stance. I feel a moral duty to call out their foolishness and belittle their bigotry at every turn. How much though does that really make me morally more righteous though in truth?

I'm very comfortable with the intolerance of intolerance as an idea, and recognise the pragmatism of it over ideological dogmatism or naivety. I feel I've been framed with no choice or change of my own views as an automatic enemy by people I cannot value the perspectives of due to the...

I just told a Reform supporter who asked me to explain why they're fascist "It's both foolish and pointless to try and explain the physics of flight to a pigeon. Why would I try to explain fascism to a supporter?" I'll be honest I'm struggling with it Have I lowered myself lower to the same level?

"If you don't support the far right policies of Israel's leader, you hate Jewish people" is the same level of lie that if you don't believe in Trump you're anti-US of Farage and accusations of being anti-British. Nationalists piss over all ideologies.

Possibly the single most powerful lesson I learned when young was don't listen to what people say; watch what they do. As bullshit detection rules go, it's been incredibly consistent.

It amazes me most how many people suddenly seem to believe that without immigration we'd eliminate crime, poverty, partner and child abuse and paedophilia. Or even fucking reduce it measurably. Their naivety is equalled only by their ignorance and casual racism.

Damn. If true that only makes it ever more dodgy and potentially malign. I suppose the question now is, who in the foreign office overrode the failed security check?

Meaning is an application, not a definition, but it is very much an application based upon consistent experiences and observations of other objects. Not a single ounce of that has any necessary connection to objective truth or "the things as they are in themselves". Nor does it need to.

The problem with the standard SM algorithm is that it's quality neutral. Engagement is engagement is engagement. It's the commercialisation of identity to undermine oppositional power. It's Che Guevara on T-shirts in high street franchise clothing stores, and it's very deliberate bullshit.

...forced to conceptualise & respond to based on how that fits into our individual current normalised concepts. This isn't a destruction of social norms but a warning about their fragility, as to me that reality forces us toward an accountability for the outcomes of our beliefs, not away from them.

The fact that we might have limited or even no potential access to the full objective truth of any external things does not inherently belie the information we gain from them. It impresses upon us that there are many things we cannot know about other bodies - including each other - and so are...

It strikes me that if MSM had responded to the fast and reactive information spread of the internet by maintaining a relatively slower output of measured, verifiable articles, they wouldn't find influencers the same level of competition.

It's hilarious because it contains the real reason he's pissed: he joined in an illegal massacre to drive up the price of oil and now the best way to send him a middle finger is buy as little gas and oil from the US as possible so he hopefully makes a long term loss.

You're only allowed to weigh in if your trauma response projection to your own abuse is to believe trans women are just a cabal of male abusers seeking new and highly convoluted means to achieve it, and that trans men are just trauma victims. Do you not know the RULES? 😉🤣

Sadly, hard work and loyalty within a modern company no longer guarantees success or advancement; they merely set the expected output levels you can be exploited for at the minimum cost.

The anger, panic and rejection of the observable relativity of morality seems to me to have far more to do with the variability of our own cultural assumptions of righteousness than it does whether or not there's a measurably better way of achieving a positive outcome in any particular circumstance.

I find it somewhat glorious that despite the genuine political statements and measures you put forward, all they seem to have is either the tit thing or some form of obvious and clear projection. I'm happy to admit I lack certainty around your economic position - and it may at this point decide...

Corruption in the wealthy is just business, but accidentally short them a quid and they'll destroy your life. Capitalism is no longer an economic engine, it's become a self-contained economic ideology of organised crime and tyranny.

It's a great demonstration of how poorly we've moralised our economics when the Justice Sec of a party once representing progressive social values indicates that reducing the consistency of fair outcomes to reduce costs is not only a positive exchange, but must be morally good because it's cheaper.

P.s. Thinking "if I can't relate to it, it must be bad" is a decision on judgement that projects insecurity, not righteousness.

I wonder if we perhaps made a mistake allowing industrialists to think they're inherently socially valuable, illustrate intellectual and/or moral values or are natural leaders. No... scratch that...we went one worse. We allowed ourselves to believe it.
