New @thewiremagazine.bsky.social! I had the great pleasure of interviewing Bruno Silva, whose Ondness and Serpente records are some of my favourite music of recent years. I also wrote an essay on the metal subculture in 2026 and reviewed new albums by BBBBBBB 🥵 and Jesse Draxler 🖤.

Tyondai Braxton splices 7 years of unsettled creative detritus – fragmented IDM, mutant techno, contemporary classical mayhem – into a sprawling 70-minute collage that's more cohesive than you'd expect. An amazing new issue of @thewiremagazine.bsky.social is out today! With @fire-toolz.bsky.social on the cover, no less! 😻Interviewed by @saving-throw.bsky.social. On my end, I had the great pleasure of talking to the master of visceral, dystopian electronic music, Franck Vigroux!

For @thequietus.com, I reviewed Ben Tweel's latest Build Buildings album. Dolce folktronica spun from loops of field recordings and gentle instrumental touches, inspired by Molly Gochman's sculpture 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘛𝘰 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥. This was... strange. The framing was weak, but some of the found footage is excellent. And quite abstract. Reminded me of The Outwaters (2022) in a good way.

Invoking Yell is a neat found footage flick, especially if you're into black metal. The genre tag is horror, but it's the subtle detail and tension between protagonists that actually make it good. Black metal themed mumblecore, basically. The director nailed the goofy yet genuinely sinister tone.

My greatest achievement this year was beating the N. Sane Trilogy version of Crash Bandicoot. The remaster messed with the jumping mechanics, making the game incredibly, unnecessarily frustrating, as if the original wasn't difficult enough. On a kinda related note, Marvel Rivals is super fun.
