Hopefully will be able to manage some EPA stuff later this week (life amirite) but in the meantime, a reminder on who #Altgov is. Being newer, I can attest to how difficult it is to balance work, life, and being an Alt. It is a LOT to balance and I appreciate all the legit Alts

This is an old article but highlights some of the impacts to science as a result of downsizing the Office of Research and Development - to note, it is estimated that of the jobs lost, an estimated 25-30% were science related jobs federalnewsnetwork.com/management/2...

The EPA has also implemented an “advance notice” policy for most of its public-facing research.

Been taking some time off to reset and focus on family. This weekend I am completely disconnecting to celebrate and surround myself with loved ones. I hope you have the opportunity to do the same. Hopefully next week I will feel up to resuming the regularly scheduled programming.

Following the post on the heist documentary, related to EPA specifically: the loss of ORD which came up in the latest budget hearing, which I didn’t take full notes on. Roughly 1600 employees were in ORD. That’s down to less than 1000. Out of that number no definitive answers were

I watched this. It’s a short rundown of the (known) damage that has been done. I don’t think the full impact has been fully realized yet, but overall this was a really well done documentary. My heart is breaking for all those we lost and the resulting harm to us all

Today was the Senate Environment and Public Works hearing on the budget. Much better today. General feel is they know the proposed budget is unrealistic and moved on and they prob have an idea of what they will budget. Also - seemed more coordinated, less repetitive comments. Some thoughts:

Alt EPA @altepa456.bsky.social · 29/04/2026

Watched both budget hearings yesterday and today and as promised adding some notes. This one will be a little more disjointed. First is my pet peeve - you could tell who was on what side. Protecting human health and the environment should be bipartisan and the EPA should rely on science and law

Alt EPA @altepa456.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

This highlights exactly what the EPA has lost. Instead of the political theater today maybe there could have been more transparency to the public on the impacts of the reorganization and subsequent devastation of ORD and research

“Reassigns researchers” is plan at Forest Service too. Does leadership think District staff doesn’t also work at desks? District staff do not roam the woods all day. But to spend more time in the field, they do lean on R&D and Regional Offices for science & policy direction. Reorg upends that.

Facebook post from U.S. Forest Service:

No, the Forest Service isn't being dismantled. That couldn't be further from the truth. Our mission continues, our teams remain dedicated, and our motto endures:
"Caring for the Land and Serving People."
We understand and appreciate the support from those who care about these lands as much as we do.
Here are the facts:
• We are moving headquarters west to Salt Lake City to be closer to the 90% of the lands we manage.
• We are shifting staff capacity out from behind desks and into the forests and districts that are desperately understaffed.
• No lands are being transferred or sold to states.
• State directors will be career employees, not political appointees.
• Our research programs and activities continue.
• Our forest and district offices remain unchanged.
• Our fire program remains unchanged.

Alt EPA @altepa456.bsky.social · 03/04/2026

I think the best comment is “we don’t know” - this is applicable across all agencies. In my job it’s common to find that same answer of we don’t know which is why EPA is broken. We literally don’t know. Secondary - Congress is failing us all, and you matter is bullshit. They need us more

So we are about to hit the 30 day countdown to Earth Day. Shifting gears because this may be better than what we planned. Should we 1. Post daily on state(s) on their activities (which could lead to missed events) or 2. Have a mass thread where everyone shares state/local opportunities?
