This project has been on the backburner while I catch-up on marking (!!!) but in the meantime, on my personal account I went over how the 2026 local election results translate to constituencies in Sheffield! 👇

We're now over halfway (~60%) through our election results. Let's have a look at how they're shaping up so far! Labour 157 (-148), Tories 100 (+22), Reform 67 (+62), Lib Dems 36 (+17), Greens 30 (+27), Workers 4 (+4), Inds 1 (-4). Half as many seats for Labour - far more in line with % vote!
A result summary (the full explanation for which is further up in the thread with the example results summary) for the entire United Kingdom, halfway through the overall results, with a turnout of 17,158,768 or 59.20%

Labour in first with 38.58% and 157 seats (-148 from the actual 2024 election results); Tories second with 24.26 and 100 (+22); Reform third with 15.93 and 67 (+62); Lib Dems fourth with 9.10 and 36 (+17); Greens fifth with 7.43 and 30 (+27); Workers sixth with 1.14 and 4 (+4); Independents on 2.94 with 1 (-4); Other parties on 0.63 with 0 (no change).

My pal Lilith has put a lot of work into this account and its a really interesting dive into how crap our voting system is and how a more proportional system would look. A very interesting thread :)

4 July 2024: Labour win a majority with only 1/3 of the vote. How? Because first past the post (FPTP) is used. Labour came first in hundreds of races across the country, which cumulatively added up to a huge majority, even though most people did not vote Labour. But what if this wasn't the case?
A map of the 2024 election in the UK under first-past the post, showing Labour having won the majority of constituencies.

Hello World! This is a project by @lilitou.bsky.social exploring UK elections under proportional voting systems, but likely to expand with time to cover all manner of weird and wonderful alternate elections! 🗳️ If you think you might be interested in that, feel free to give this account a follow! 😊
