A galactic house of mirrors 🌌🪞 Webb has captured this spectacular view of the galaxy cluster MACS J0454.1-0300. Its gravity is warping & multiplying the images of background galaxies, which appear like they have stepped into a house of mirrors! Read more 👉 www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... 🔭 🧪
A massive galaxy cluster, made of many golden elliptical galaxies with the largest, brightest one in the centre. Heavily distorted orange galaxies appear all around the cluster, the largest concentrated in a large arc around the cluster's centre; these are images of very distant galaxies, created by gravitational lensing. A few galaxies are large and bluish-white in colour; bright, nearby stars are the same colour. Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, L. Furtak, S. Fujimoto

In honor of cat day — a 2023 assignment to write detailed instructions in a Technical writing course. A friend posted a copy in his gallery above the ceramic cat mugs under the heading “This is what an artist does in a technical writing course.” I guess an art student is an “artist”?

A region of space filled with bright stars and clouds of gas. In the centre, the densest clouds form the shape of a chest with its lid open. The chest appears to glow from within. At its base it breaks apart into long pillars of thick gas. Many of the gas clouds in the background are dark orange globules, while others form large, pale hazes.

No printmaking courses this summer, so I am learning to paint with acrylics. The prompt was paint an object that “represents you.” I painted a sculpture I found in a hippie shop in 1971. To me, it represents recycling and renewal. Classmates didn’t recognize what the sculpture was built around🙃
A small metal sculpture built around a 1950s copper toilet tank float. Wheels, a propeller, rotors, tail fins, and a “rope” ladder, all added in metal wire make it resemble a helicopter built around a ribbed round center.Painting of the object described in the other image, positioned slightly up and left of center in 3/4 front view on a gray box like platform draped in blue.
