The NAACP (national) and the Sixteen Thirty Fund are the exact same type of legal + tax entity: 501(c)(4) "social welfare" orgs.

That means they're tax-exempt, donations aren't deductible, they can lobby & do some political work, and they don't have to disclose donors. It's a legal distinction.

So she is correct in that assertion. Whether you call either "dark money" is up to you. The fact is they're both legally the same type of entity.

Just learned today that "issue advocacy" groups are also "dark money" groups, they are not required to publicly disclose their donors. Now I'm even more interested in going down this rabid hole. When I hear "dark money" I think Peter Theil, NRx (neoreactionary) movement, Heritage Fund... nefarious shit. Methodology

Some transactions with smaller state or local agencies may not be captured in this data because GovSpend targets the top 100 agencies for each state in each sector and Bloomberg Government captures only federal contracts. Also, any public revenue from subcontracting work will not be captured in these figures.

To determine the valuation for Gothams' business, the company is credited with about $276 million in annual revenue, based on the five-year lagging average of its purchase order income, according to data compiled by GovSpend. Its valued is based on the EV-to-sales multiples of five publicly traded peers.

Whether Abbott can in fact name the replacements for elected members of the state Legislature is open to dispute. Charles "Rocky" Rhodes, a constitutional law professor at the University of Missouri School of Law, said flatly that is not in Abbott's power.

"If you think about the idea of Separation of Powers, you would see why he doesn't have that authority," Rhodes said. "We don't want the governor to be able to handpick members of the Legislature. That sounds like something the King of England would have done, which would, of course, be contrary to any basic notion of Separation of Powers."

Political scientist Brandon Rottinghaus of the University of Houston said that Texas courts have traditionally treated the question of abandonment of office with a very high level of scrutiny.

"The courts would have to reverse themselves and re-litigate some of those issues if they were to come down on the side that says being absent from office is tantamount to a legislative vacancy," Rottinghaus said.

Rhodes said it's also not a given that courts would rule in Abbott and Paxton's favor on the question of whether Democratic lawmakers have abandoned their offices.

"The Democratic lawmakers have made no indication at all that they're abandoning their office," Rhodes said. "They are just engaging in a technique to try to shut the Legislature down, a technique that is contemplated by the Texas Constitution and has been used by members of the Texas Legislature on several occasions during our history."

Hill Country flood response and relief: Following the deadly floods

over the July Fourth weekend, Abbott directed lawmakers to look at flood warning systems, emergency communications, natural disaster preparation and relief funding for impacted areas.

Regulating THC: Abbott vetoed a bill during the regular session that

would have banned hemp-derived THC products, then instructed lawmakers to regulate the industry. The Senate last week passed its second attempt to ban most hemp products, including some that are legal under federal regulations, setting up another potential standoff with the governor.

Limiting property taxes: Lawmakers are considering a bill that would

further restrict how much more cities and counties can collect in property taxes without asking voters. Critics of the bill argue that it would place local governments in a financial bind.

Bathroom bill: The proposed legislation would require people to use

The election supervisor and the local chair of the Republican Party invited Trump campaign allies and a data forensics team into the secure area where the Dominion machines and the election management server are stored.

For several days, they copied proprietary software and confidential data. It is one of the most infamous security breaches in U.S. election history. It was uncovered by the Coalition for Good Governance and other plaintiffs in that federal lawsuit.

The letter sent by nearly two dozen computer scientists, election security experts and voter advocacy organizations asks for a federal probe and a risk assessment of voting machines used throughout the country, saying the software breaches have “urgent implications for the 2024 election and beyond." The breaches affected voting equipment made by two companies that together count over 70% of the votes cast across the country, according to the letter.

"The multistate effort to unlawfully obtain copies of voting system software poses serious threats to election security and national security and constitutes a potential criminal conspiracy of enormous consequences," the group wrote in a letter sent to U.S.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, special counsel Jack Smith, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Jen Easterly, director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. "We must protect our most sacred tenet of democracy - the security of our vote."

This resource offers the first chronicle of the Trump administration's actions this year to undermine election integrity. They include:

attempting to rewrite election rules to burden voters and usurp control of election systems;

targeting or threatening to target election officials and others who keep elections free and fair;

supporting people who undermine election administration; and

retreating from the federal government's role of protecting voters and the election process.

Why do we conclude this represents a concerted strategy? Among other things, President Trump tried to do this before. He was the first president to try to overturn the results of a presidential election and used federal power to do so. Institutions and key officials blocked him. These internal checks, however, are now gone, and many public officials will likely carry out the president's will.

This campaign to undermine elections runs afoul of the U.S. Constitution. Only Congress and the states can set election rules. The executive branch, especially the Department of Justice (DOJ), is charged with enforcing federal laws. But neither the president nor the DOJ has the authority to set rules governing elections or to supervise the state and local officials who run them.

On July 6, 2019, federal authorities arrested Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and two days later an indictment was unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District for New York charging him with sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors..2 According to the indictment, Mr. Epstein sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach, and other locations. Among other things, the indictment alleged that Epstein enticed girls as young as 14 years old to engage in sex acts with him in exchange for money. This was not the first time that Mr. Epstein had been investigated for committing sex crimes. In 2008, he pled guilty in Florida state court to two prostitution offenses, and, in exchange, he and his co-conspirators received immunity from federal prosecution through a non-prosecution agreement. 5

On August 10, 2019, while in federal custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, New York, Mr. Epstein died. The Chief Medical Examiner of New York City ruled his death a suicide. Subsequently, on June 28, 2022, you were sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring with Mr. Epstein to sexually abuse minors. 8

The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr. Epstein's cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny. At the outset of the 119th Congress, on February 11, 2025, the Committee and the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice (Department) requesting a briefing regarding documents in the Department's possession regarding "the investigation into and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein."9 On May 8, the Task Force sent another letter to the Department requesting the public release of "the entirety of the Epstein files" and a briefing regarding the release of these files. 10

On July 13, The Daily Mail reported you were willing to speak with Congress regarding Mr. Epstein's criminal activities.¹¹ According to the reporting, a source said you were "never offered any kind of plea deal" and "would be more than happy to sit before Congress and tell [your] story."12

On July 17, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, "I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to court approval..."13 On July 18, in response to the President's direction, Attorney General Bondi posted on X, "[o]ur motion has been filed."14

On July 22, Attorney General Bondi posted a statement from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on X stating, "If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and DOJ will hear what she has to say. "15 Further,
