Would you like to make a substantial impact on Scotland’s small press scenes and help uplift self-publishing creators? Small Press Scotland CIC is looking for a new director to join our existing team as a partner. You will assist with and oversee event organisation, community engagement, and development of resources and strategies to educate and assist creators working across many creative fields.

This is a volunteer, unpaid role for the immediate future; all current directors are working on a volunteer or contractor basis dependent on project funding. If full funding is received for our 2027 programme and beyond, we expect to pay all directors a rate of £20/hour for approximately 200 hours a year.

Artists of any level, find your niches, curate your preferred list of events you like to attend and make you money. If these big events work for you, great I wish you the best at them! For me, events of this ilk continue to disappoint me and I can't afford to loose money on them any more. 🤷‍♀️

The list of events I now avoid because of things like this is getting longer. What is the point of wasting a weekend scraping together pennies at events that clearly don't give a single shit about art or artists when it is also the most overstimulating and anxiety inducing experience on top of that.

The organisers of these large-scale events really don't see folks in the artists alley as colleagues, they see them as CUSTOMERS, so once they've got their money they don't care if they make a profit. It's such a ridiculous attitude to have about a genuine major attraction at your event.
