Ways I have described my record in review requests
mortise+tenon is a record about the transient nature of ontological reality maybe, or not, and also love, loss, ghosts, volcanoes, hope as an insurrectionist act, etc
The record is 57 minutes of cosmic indie bedroom folk about
potential realities, parallel lives, connections across time and the boundaries between worlds, and what we bequeath to future generations. Aka love and loss and humanhood.
The songs are about change and
ontological crises and the agony of loss and the relentless cavalcade of days and honestly not much woodworking despite the title, which is more a metaphor of connection and strength and togetherness, which is also what the songs are about, too.

Here's what you need to remember: There is no reward that comes later. No righteous justice will be dispensed, not soon and not ever. Renee Good and Alex Pretti don't come back to life. If I had to make a sweeping "what is this record about" type of statement about I might say that MORTISE+ TENONI is a record about connections, made and missed; about loves, held and lost; about futures, realized and evaporated. About the inherent contradictions in a normal existence, about how an unassuming event can take on outsized proportion, about how you can never know the genesis of a thing until you get the full stretch of history to analyze it. How that's in and of itself an irreconcilable contradiction, deep with pathos.
