We got second place in our category! Got some video yesterday before things got busy. Alas, the piranha plant’s mechanism wasn’t up to the abuse of kids hammering on it constantly, but the flag pole worked all weekend.

Six weeks of scrambling, but we got our life sized mario entry done just in time for the festival this weekend. Just gotta get through today. I’m so tired, lol.

Giant super mario scarecrow display outside in a park. 6’ tall 8 bit mario, giant piranha plant coming out of a green pipe, luigi riding up and down a flag pole, blue sky backdrop with hanging brick and question blocks. Pumpkins painted with star, mushroom, koopa and goomba in foreground, and pixel mosaic sign that reads american science and surplus. There’s a giant nintendo controller on a table in front of the display with buttons that make the flagpole work and trigger sound effects.

Keep making art. Do things because you’re human and need to create. No overblown chatbot will ever replace you and what you’re capable of doing. Skilled craftsmanship matters more than ever in a world where they keep churning out bland mediocre pap. Made these for an upcoming work event.

Aaahh, now I wish I’d taken more pics when I was building it! 🤣 At least remembered to snap a couple of progress pics while I was working. For size reference , the squares on the gray mat are 1”. The figures are for model railroad. I repainted them for Space! And sculpted tiny armor for murderbot.

This year for the auction, I designed and put together ten miniature kits just for RTV! Comes with all the materials and detailed instructions to built your own tiny world in a tin. The only way to get one of these will be through the auction!

A mini scene in a tin with tiny books, flower vase, candlestick, bottle of stones and other assorted bits on little shelves with a round window behind on the upper right.

Miniature kit “Peaceful Moments” packed in a plastic zip bag with instructions and components in labeled bags next to a closed metal altoids style tin with a round sticker on it that says peaceful moments.

Instruction sheets and materials bags from the peaceful moments miniature kit laid out on a flat surface to show some of the things that come inside the bag.

A cluttered and chaotic craft room space with just enough stuff cleared away from the table to set up for taking pics of items. A gray cutting mat is propped up to form a back board and a sheet of light brown paper covers the table’s surface. Several small gooseneck LED lamps provide lighting.

A cash register stand in a still empty store being worked on. The front of it is plastered in old catalog pages and torn pieces of scrapbook paper in shades of dark teal, cream, brown and burgundy.the walls behind it are a similar dark teal and cream, and the floor is marbled dark blue. Community is a big part of what keeps me going. I work with a bunch of younger queer and trans folks, love what I do, and it gives me a place to focus my energy and people I can help and connect with. I also try to make sure I take time to work on my miniature builds. Hobbies are important.

Diorama of a cherry blossom tree and park bench with fallen petals and wrapped bento lunch. A 2D drawing of a bunny girl in a school uniform stands behind the bench holding a petal and looking serene.

Tiny diorama of mossy wet rocks with a bamboo spout fountain. A stream of resin “water” pours out to splash into the faux pond at the base. A few plants and ferns grow on the rocks and a handful of tiny fallen leaves rest on the water.

Miniature mad science apothecary diorama in a small case. A messy desk dripping with papers, jarred specimens and bottled chemicals haphazard on the surface and a shelf above. Rolled maps shoved in a drawer that juts out. A rack of tiny test tubes and bottles of unidentifiable liquids scattered about.

A pair of fingers holding a tiny glass jar with an open flip top sealing lid, pointed to look down inside the jar. Within is a seascape with a tiny swimmer in a black bathing suit. There are specks of bright fish near them and floating seaweed as well. The foam from the wave they’ve just cut through is near their ankles.
