Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 19hhey @solstrider.bsky.social you gonna be ok (looks amazing already!) 120
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Loose context for what brought those last posts up: 050
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I know nothing more about her and don’t care to. The irony was that many of those concert-goers were loudly talking about how great the south was, despite clearly living in the NY tristate area. Especially weird to me as I actually lived in Texas for 11 years—some of them maybe did, too, but still. 040
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Since Choosin’ Texas keeps coming up: I wasn’t aware of who Ella Langley was until we happened to be on a NJT train that was flooded by her fans post-concert. They were loudly homophobic and one directly harassed my spouse by getting in their face (~two inches from it) and singing lyrics at them. 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Update: Voice gave out halfway through Flowers, time for tea and ibuprofen, that was indeed a bad idea but I had fun! 060
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Me: Okay, you’re just now feeling better after a week of a sore throat and head cold, let’s keep taking it easy for a full recovery. Also Me: Surely I will not regret putting on Hadestown and singing along to all parts, this surely will not hurt my still-healing throat at all. 180
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Unfortunately I watched Clear Card as it aired so I don’t think it’ll work. 😭 110
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 09/10/2026(I think this is the first time this has happened with a non-anime, although the Game of Thrones TV adaptation WAS announced about three weeks after I finished the first book iirc.) 010
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Multiple times I’ve picked up an anime on a whim years after it “ended” only for a long-awaited continuation to be announced, so we’ve joked about reviving series being my mundane superpower. It’s obviously a coincidence, but fun. Anyway I watched CRAZY RICH ASIANS for the first time two weeks ago. 240
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Yes! My spouse and I picked them up on a whim from our local farmer's market a few years ago and now we eagerly look for them whenever they're in season. They're just so good! 000
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 08/10/2026While in Minnesota I picked up some new-to-me Zestar! (the exclamation point is, amusingly, part of the formal name) apples to use for an apple-stuffed challah and they were *delightful*. Closer to home, also a big fan of WineCrisp. (Yes, I prefer tart apples, can you tell?) 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I think Epona's Song, played idly and badly on an ocarina, just summoned my cat from the other room (and/or my cat has INCREDIBLE comedic timing). 160
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I grew up watching my dad play Resident Evil and other survival horror games so nothing in that vein ever phased me, but the first thing I remember truly frightening me was when the dude gets torn apart by a sand tornado in (I *think*) Mission to Mars. 030
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 05/10/2026There's one of these in the Museum of the Moving Image's paraphernalia collection and I always stare at it with a mix of fear and longing. 030
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Back when Scholastic did vaccines on-site you got a Clifford bandaid, and I’ve forever been chasing that high. We deserve fun ones! 110
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Your bandaid is so much cooler than my generic CVS one! Jealous! 110
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Considering I had to repeatedly tell @solstrider.bsky.social not to buy me a rapier at the renfaire*, this is hilariously apt. *not because I don’t want one, mind, but because I’d rather save for a custom one 040
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 23/09/2026the new Mistria community crossing with the old Mistria community is making for so much "what are you TALKING about" community. And also a lot of rehashing of March lmao. 110
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Every now and then the "former quizbowl captain" in me just LEAPS out. 050
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 19/09/2026(I also ran the "Religious Fruit" category. I did have an advantage on the $2000 question, but that same advantage almost cost me the $1200 one because I got tripped up on the wording--I wouldn't call that a *book*.) 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Frankly it is unfair that there was an episode of Jeopardy! with categories such as "Broadway Musicals By Song," "Science," "Recaps of Shakespeare" AND the double meme whammy of "False Berlin" and "Bizarre Little Men" and I didn't get to be on it. I would have RUN that board. 190
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 19/09/2026They way they would have had to bleep me if I had been a contestant because I would have immediately gone "no fucking way." 130
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026(I have not given up hope on you, LoZ anniversary Switch 2. I will acquire you.) 040
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Today I learned that the Nintendo shop will actively warn you if you're about to buy a game, controller or other peripheral for a console you do not have linked to your account. Related: yes, I am certain I want to preorder a game for a console I don't have yet, I am TRYING to buy that console. 130
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026It is constant and so exhausting and we have no choice but to do it. 🙃 020
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Back at you. At least we can always commiserate, you're never alone in dealing with this. 💜 110
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026But it's, well, not surprising but a bit painful that as always Jews are expected to just smile and nod along with someone who has used the same platform they're now using for good for antisemitism, without ever having to really apologize for doing so. As always, the Jews are tired. 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026And again: none of this invalidates his pro-Palestine activism, it doesn't invalidate Hind's Hall, it doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to speak. Obviously it is GOOD that he is using his platform for Palestine. I cannot stress this enough: what he is doing now is good. 130
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026(I also have thoughts on how past antisemitism is excused or forgotten VERY easily, while if a Jew, no matter their post history, so much as posts about a Jewish holiday they get accosted with demands to denounce Israel or get accused of being a Zionist, but man, I wanna enjoy my evening.) 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Him being pro-Palestine does not make him antisemitic, to be abundantly clear. But unfortunately that doesn't mean he's not antisemitic for other reasons. 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026It is good and right to speak up for Palestine and musical acts SHOULD be dropping out in protest of being silenced, but this is the guy who made me explain Jew-face at a Rosh Hashanah dinner because of his "thrown-together" costume for a performance of Thrift Shop. 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 16/09/2026LRP: I'm truly only bringing it up because I did not realize just how few people (re: gentiles) remember or paid attention to that. It does not invalidate anything about his activism or support of Palestine, but It DOES make seeing him being depicted as an unproblematic force of good land poorly. 170
Reposted by Jennifer HackettErin Biba @erinbiba.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I didn’t want to bring it up because of all the “well actually’s” it was gonna draw but I’ve been waiting to see if anyone was gonna say something or if you were all just gonna memory hole this. 91828138
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Genuinely, we hit a certain point in the year and it’s just a marathon. 010
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Awww! That’s delightful! Sweet things for a sweet new year is such a fun and universally-appealing tradition, I’m glad they were excited about it. (And thank you for teaching them about it! 💜) 120
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The Book of Life is obviously not a Rosh Hashanah movie, it’s a Día de los Muertos one, and yet I still feel like it’s the right holiday/movie pairing. Anyway! L’shana tovah, have some apples and honey, and please be understanding as your Jewish friends’ calendars get confusing for a while. 261
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The way we use and rewrite collective memory around pivotal events matters and needs to be challenged, especially when jt comes to events in our living memory, because it’s just historical revisionism in real time. 070
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I don’t have a point, necessarily, outside of maybe this: circling the wagons will always come at the expense of those not invited into the circle, and acting like the camaraderie of those inside is universal is willfully refusing to acknowledge reality and the harm inflicted on those made other. 150
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026(This is tangential, but: Only three houses in my neighborhood never got the “Yard of the Month“ award, which was supposed to cycle through everyone. The Muslim family, the Black family, and mine—the Jewish family. We all noticed.) 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026The other thing I remember is going with my mom to get groceries/run errands for our neighbors. They were Muslim, it was Texas, and they did not feel safe leaving their house for *days* after. Dad (who worked nights) took to having his pipe in front of their house during the day. 130
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Suddenly they all wanted proximity to tragedy through me, their nine-year-old student, because I was the one with NYC ties, and they could use that to make their own feelings more valid or righteous. My family weren’t people to them. They were props for the story they wanted to be able to tell. 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I think it was one of my earliest experiences with people talking for a group I was arguably part if that they had no actual understanding of. Suddenly so many adults were talking like they spoke for NYC when I knew they’d never been there, didn’t even LIKE the version of it they had in their heads. 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Meanwhile I am GENUINELY WORRIED about my family, but my just-shy-of-nine-year-old self is stuck trying to appease the anxieties of my teacher. (I’d later learn some of my family did need to evacuate.) This all happened in Texas, too, which is another layer—NYC was like another world to her. 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026But she would not let me not call SOMEONE. So I called my dad. Me: My teacher wants me to call grandma. My dad: NYC‘s phones are overloaded, you won’t get through?? Me: That’s what I said. Pretend you’re grandma so she leaves me alone. 140
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I kept going, “Neither of us are gonna get through, and phone use should be kept to emergencies.” (This was pre-texting!) My teacher DEMANDED I call my relatives anyway. Most of my extended family is in NYC. That would’ve been calling, like, four or five people minimum! 130
Jennifer Hackett @allonsyjeni.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Obligatory 9/11 thoughts: I remember my 4th grade teacher telling anyone in the class who knew LITERALLY ANYONE in NYC to call them THAT SECOND using the classroom phone. There were two of us. I’m the daughter of an emergency comms person; I remember telling her phones would be overloaded. 150
