Molecular Ecologist and Conservation Geneticist. I work a lot with fish, eDNA, and eRNA - with a soft spot for salmonids (very original, I know...)

What in the absolute f*ck Apparently researchers at the University of Zurich conducted an experiment in the /r/changemyview subreddit where they assessed the ability of large language models to change people’s views. This was allegedly done without any informed consent whatsoever.

Just stumbled across this, another solid paper from the Kelly lab! Great to see work like this on making eDNA interpretation more accessible to end-users besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

eDNAjoint: An R package for interpreting paired or semi‐paired environmental DNA and traditional survey data in a Bayesian framework
Environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling is increasingly used in surveys of species distribution as a potentially sensitive and efficient monitoring method. Yet access to modelling tools designed specifi...

Well this is just a super cool paper, using eDNA to track dispersal dynamics of invasive fish species based on haplotype number: doi.org/10.1002/edn3...

Environmental DNA Haplotyping Reveals Dispersal Patterns of Invasive Bluegill Sunfish, Lepomis macrochirus, in Japan
We developed an environmental DNA (eDNA)-based haplotyping approach to reveal the haplotype distributions of invasive bluegill sunfish in Japan. Our analysis detected a negative relationship between ...

1) Well folks, here’s my (hopefully) big one – the culmination (but not the end!) of an area of research I’ve been pursuing for awhile! We developed a framework to unify the relationships between eDNA, numerical abundance, and biomass: doi.org/10.1002/edn3...

A Framework to Unify the Relationship Between Numerical Abundance, Biomass, and Environmental DNA
Whether eDNA correlates more strongly with numerical abundance or biomass remains an outstanding question. We resolve this issue by demonstrating, using frameworks developed from metabolic ecology, t...

Pretty stoked that I managed to sneak in a Hamlet pun in an upcoming manuscript (working on proofs today) Stay tuned, I'm hoping this one (the manuscript, not the pun) will be an impactful one!

Timely and important paper on guidelines for workflows and reporting of #eDNA #metabarcoding data. Hugely relevant to ongoing discussions within #ukeof #ukdnawg about standards and data mobilisation @lynseyrharper.bsky.social @danread.bsky.social

Had the pleasure of being the handling editor for this paper - was really a tremendous effort and fantastic study, was very excited to see this one submitted to the journal!

Well, giving the whole 'Science Twitter' (now 'Science Bluesky'?) thing a shot. Science twitter used to be so awesome for finding the newest eDNA and ecology/conservation science, so fingers crossed this platform can recreate that!
