They have it at Costco in Manhattan! It wasn’t on the website this week but I’m here as we speak and they say I can get it! 😍

Really? My son’s NY 529 is doing excellent. 529s should be lower return for older kids since they need to take money out, is your child older?

The scenario you said about the overflowing trash can really happened to me! I reported a can with no liner to 311 and instead of adding a liner they removed it. Just a month or two ago. 😵‍💫

Some studies have shown evidence of fewer side effects, longer protection, and lower risk of inflammation. I support any and all vaccines, but prefer the data on Novavax. There is also some evidence that mixing between brands has benefits so if you’ve only had mrna before could be worth a change.

How does Parchment know where students got in? They would know where they applied and deposited but I’m curious how they know admission data?

Thanks for the reply. Any loopholes where a school can leave a $10 balance? Or will we see a full abandonment of our lowest income students? Also curious how outside scholarships will be tracked, so many require Pell eligibility. And I assume they count “full ride” threshold as tuition only.

Am I reading this graphic right that if your aid package covers everything else, you won’t be eligible for a Pell Grant? So schools meeting full need will not longer get Pell for those students?

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.

I want to know more about why he isn’t ever talked about or included in slate suggestions. I get that he isn’t DSA, but when the goal is to block Cuomo, what am I missing?

Yes, in that they don’t support Trump or his policies. No, in that I don’t think they center thinking about this daily the way I do since I work in the industry. I think they rely on the idea that the courts will stop him. I’m less optimistic. My dad also doesn’t understand how endowments work.

I sent this text to my family on March 12. 10 weeks feels like both a blink and a lifetime. Where will we be 10 weeks from now?
Text message that reads: Do you think the general public understands the rate at which education, colleges and universities in particular, is being dismantled? Like my industry obviously knows - but do every day people get it?

Any swag available? “Don’t rank Cuomo” vintage style T? I’m usually not into branded gear but could get behind wearing something like that for the next 2 months

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

I didn’t read the paper just this screenshot but isn’t this more an argument for Landscape to be public than for testing to be need to be required?

I think about this conversation with John Thelin, who described this moment as a sort of inverse New Deal, a lot: “We’re talking about the character and essence of our universities for at least the next generation.”
Screenshot that reads: “It’s difficult to put moments into perspective as you’re living through them. But to John Thelin, an emeritus professor at the University of Kentucky who has made a career of studying higher education’s history, the efforts of Rufo, as well as of Cirino and politicians like him, have placed higher education at a crucial juncture—one that challenges not only the way universities are currently constructed, but also their core tenets, including academic freedom and shared governance.

“We’re talking about the character and essence of our universities for at least the next generation,” Thelin told me. The various governmental efforts to reform higher education—regarding admissions, curriculum, tenure, oversight—are sort of like the New Deal, he said. Typically, when an academic invokes the New Deal, they mean to suggest a positive, dramatic innovation. That’s not what Thelin meant, though: “I see it more as an unraveling.”

Absolutely - an intersection of screen based childhood experiences, forever chemicals, “efficient” building code and construction, etc so many things have rapidly changed and are interacting with one another to cause changes in development

My theory is this is more about politics and funding - because the milestones influence what services get paid for by the gov. So when you move or remove the goalposts kids with delays won’t need to be provided free services.

I say this as someone who still masks and truly believes paying attention to covid is important. But milestone updates take a very, very long time so these changes were already in the works before the arrival of the pandemic.

Allison @allisonc99.bsky.social · 21/12/2024
I don’t think the milestone changes are connected w Covid (my child was born in 2020 and being home allowed me to really learn a lot about this in real time when it was happening). The kids impacted by longcovid weren’t what influenced this. But I still totally agree that the changes were a mistake.

Is the crux of the suit that because the schools are non profits they should only be charging the lowest possible amount for their product? So if they have money to run without tuition they shouldn’t be charging?

They aren’t that expensive to ship from Europe bc health stuff is so affordable in Europe. The shipping is the only expensive part, and it was like $30 for me to get 15 tests. Far cheaper than 15 rapids in the US.

I also know someone who had their car stolen, found it themselves when nypd was useless, they towed it and when he went to pick it up it was full of evidence (receipt, etc) that they had just left there. 🙃

Totally agree this amounts to a nothing burger. Tuition is different than cost of attendance. This probably moves the needle 10k for this range of income. It’s fine, but it isn’t revolutionary. It’s a headline, but not a giant shift for a school that already met need.

I know it won’t help you for this situation, but consider buying the Rsv, flu, covid combo tests from Germany. The shipping is expensive but if you buy a bunch at once you will only pay a few $ per test. Mine took maybe two weeks to arrive. Can keep them on hand for next time.
