My debut novel, The Life We Bury, just received its 200,001st review on Goodreads! "Great book. I really enjoyed the pacing and characters as well as the mystery Joe and Lila are trying to solve. I definitely recommend this one." Thank you, everyone, for all the support over the years!

Thirty years ago today (07/11/1995) the city of Srebrenica fell, leading to one of the most egregious acts of ethnic cleansing in modern history. I made that event a pivotal moment in my latest novel The Quiet Librarian. But before writing the book, I had no idea.

Last night I presented a lecture that touched on the craft of writing. Here's a short clip where I'm talking about writing emotion. I'll be teaching with Karen Dione at the Muskrat Lodge Writer's Retreat (muskrat-lodge.com) (July 24-26) and there are seats available. www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxHC3...

5⭐️ alert. Do you know what it takes for a book to get this rating? A lot. @alleneskens.bsky.social book takes place in my hometown & writes about the g**cide in Bosnia with such tenderness for the characters. Details are not glorified & I appreciate that esp with heavy topics #booksky #bookrec

This one will be made into a movie, mark my words. It’s amazing. It’s intense and sad, and goes back and forth between the past in the Bosnian war and current U.S. where the past is coming back to haunt her. I love the characters and the plot is top notch. #TheQuietLibrarian #AllenEskens #Booksky
