Immigrants are not the enemy
I am writing this today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the day after a most misguided act right here in our city.

It is everyone's duty to call out this shameful display of fascism or be doomed to repeat the worst atrocities we have ever inflicted upon each other. This is how it starts.

To the men with the signs: Why do you parrot the words and ideas of the most corrupt, the most ethically, morally, and empathetically bankrupt people the world has yet to see? You mean nothing to them; they use you to create division, keeping you busy and angry with made-up problems while you lose what's left of your freedom. I don't need to ask if things have gone from bad to worse for you in the last 10 years. I know they have, because it’s happening to everyone and it has nothing to do with politics, or borders, or transgender people, and most certainly not immigrants.

There have been countless waves of immigration into our country: 1815-50 brought British, Scottish and Irish immigrants to Canada, 1890-1910 brought Germans, Italians, Africans, Scandinavians, and Ukrainians, 1946-60 brought continental Europeans as well as Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, looking for refuge from persecution, war, and social and economic changes. We are made up of millions of hundreds of ethnic groups that made their way to this country under adverse conditions, all looking for a safe place to live and raise their families.

And I'm not forgetting to whom this land belongs to in the first place. We are ALL immigrants unless you are Indigenous. People from all corners of the Earth are here; they are our neighbours, they are business owners, retail workers, caregivers, professionals, family, friends.

They are an integral part of our society.

I understand you are frustrated and angry, wondering how you will make ends meet every day. But people are not your enemy. Fascism will not save you, it will destroy you. Greed is the enemy. Greed wi…

This is a no-brainer: a Granny who wants to volunteer at a school lunch program has to get a security clearance. And yet Pierre Poilievre who lives in a 19-room mansion funded by the taxpayer refuses or can't get a security clearance. Something stinks here. www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

The Conservative leader has argued that he won't be muzzled by secrecy constraints that accompany security clearances.

Very interesting model. I wonder how much covid, sick days, Long COVID, hospitalizations and deaths could we avoid if we are all regularly boostered as opposed to the current status quo.

Hoping to get as many signatures as possible on this to gain the attention of City of Toronto officials. Please share widely!! As far as I know, a city-wide #IAQ policy in place could be a first in Canada. #CleanAir #CleanIndoorAir #IndoorAirQuality

Musk comes from a family that moved to South Africa *for* the racism. He has repeatedly endorsed Great Replacement Theory in the US & Neo-Nazis of the AfD in Germany. He championed the rights of white nationalists and restored Nazi accounts to Twitter. But I'm sure the Nazi salute was an accident.

There is no doubt about what certain symbols and gestures mean, especially when you put them into context of an individual or societies recent and well documented statements/behaviours. Throwing doubts on it is just gaslighting.

There is a lot wrong with this house sub committee. However, I graps to understand why some peope vehemently defend EH, Daszak and GoF research when there are plenty of smoking guns, indicating the possibility of a lab leak. We still need a proper covid origins investigation. One we may never get.

Very much so. Just learned of a healthy fit teenager getting Long COVID and know quite a few endurance athletes who had to give up their jobs because of it. All of them vaccinated, almost almost all of them with 'mild' omicron and all from a 'mild' initial infection.

Below is a meta-study published last year about this. There is seems to be benefit for the general population? Even if the effect would be moderate, there would still be a lot of avoided chronic illness and disability. www.journalofinfection.com/action/showP...

I wish Long COVID prevention is considered more often when evaluating antiviral effectiveness, funding and prescribing them. There are a few studies that show that they lower the chances of devloping Long COVID.

For people with Long COVID (and covid cautious people in general), the lack of mask mandates in healthcare is a big accessibility issue. Many of us have started to avoid health care if there is a chance we would have to unmask for a procedure or have to stay overnight.

I and most of the LC people I know would be included according these criteria but the study’s outcomes do not match the lived experiences I know of. This study feels odd.

CBT and physio may help some people learn how to manage their symptoms. It's not a cure though. My personal LC rehab experience (and those of LC folks speak with) has been a mixed bag with no significant improvements. I hope this won't be used to argue for psychogenesis and gaslighting patients.

Felt the same back in November and December. The ‘it’s mild’ was for a lot of media, politicians and people I spoke to then the exit door of the pandemic. Most of my Long COVID peers got LC form Omicron variants.

Dear @cnn.com Invading sovereign countries is the work of fascist leaders. Referring to such threats as "teasing" is what compliant state propaganda does. Just as Trump takes lessons from Putin you could get workshop training for your editors from Russian state media. Canada will resist.

This should be front page news. 70% of patients requiring the hospital for Covid CAUGHT it in healthcare. That’s an alarming amount of completely preventable hospitalizations. Healthcare settings know how to stop spread. Clean air & mandatory respirators. Forcibly infecting patients is wrong 🧵/1
Blue chart from the GIG Cymru NHS Wales. It reads

Number of inpatient COVID-19 cases in hospital in Wales on 17/11/2024

Number of inpatient cases in hospital 266

Number of indeterminate acquisition cases 37
Number of hospital acquired cases 185
