1/3 #Trump once again showing a breath-taking lack of understanding of #TheHormuzCrisis, and the situation in the Middle East as a whole. You can not just claim the strait is open and the mines are gone. That in itself will not restore confidence and traffic, nor is it even remotely true...

2/3 I have said time and again that until the air battle is won or negotiated, then the mine threat can not be countered fully. Vessels have been struck this very week by missiles and or drones... If there is still an active air threat, the mine clearance operations can not have been conducted.

3/3 The thing is, it is worse than just factually inaccurate. It is dangerously misleading. Seafarers should not be made to risk their lives on the say-so of a known liar. But - some companies will point to this announcement as "proof" and may force Masters to attempt the transit.

1/12 The big news story from #TheHormuzCrisis this morning is that CENTCOM says US forces have cleared Iranian mines from the internationally recognised shipping lanes through Hormuz and that those lanes are open. That sounds decisive. For commercial shipping, it is not.

Here are the figures comparing UK and non-EU nationals in Jan 2020 and in Dec 2025 In 2025, it was 3.85 million vs 0.37 million So there are actually 10 times as many UK U25s in paid employment as there are non-EU U25s And the VAST MAJORITY were hired after Jan 2020 8/
Bar graphs show UK nationals employed under 25 rising from 3.84M to 3.85M, while non-EU nationals increased from 81.5K to 370.9K.

UK can't end child/parental poverty without equitable distribution of income. 34% of the people on Universal Credit are in employment. 1.17m workers are on zero-hour contracts. 4.5m jobs pay less than the real Living Wage. Employment Rights Bill will not end zero-hour contracts, fire and rehire.
