The difference in response to AI between software devs and artists fascinates me. Art values a work's provenance, whereas software is usually valued by its usefulness. Artists see AI as lost commissions, vs devs are happy to send people with "million dollar" app ideas to build it with chatGPT.

Okay tried prime agent for a few days, and it seems to consume dramatically more tokens than open code while producing worse outputs. Maybe I'm just using it wrong, but I thought it was supposed to use less tokens and do a better job; I've seen neither benefit.

Using built-in terminal colors (ANSI) on servers will send the color codes to my machine, so if theming is set on my machine remote TUIs render right & respond to my system light/dark changes. How did I not learn this sooner?! 🙃

I’ve been feeling the care for details degrading quickly the past 5 years, both from the transition of career bureaucrats to admin yes-men, and additionally the mass cognitive offloading to AI. I wonder how much the former has influenced the latter.

When I started working on wm, I quickly learned that the OS is why window managers feel wrong on mac. Mac is not a cooperative OS; it has opinions about where windows can move! To address this, I designed wm to learn how the OS behaves and adapt to it. Here's a comparison using learned Mac rules.

Taking prime agent for a spin after all the praise I've seen from @timkellogg.me and others. First impressions are pretty good! I feel it provides better insight to how subagents are being used, and like that subagents don't block main agent interactivity. Too early to judge quality/token usage.

After trying many options and not finding a window manager I love on Mac, I decided to build my own wm. It seemed a waste not to share it though, so I decided to make a website for it. The website needs to explain the product, which is hard. IMO show > tell, so wm runs in a browser too! 😅

Even as a dev, I found atmosphere account sign-in really sketchy at first. IIRC there were redirects to bsky.social which is _not_ bsky.app so immediately failed my domain check and set off phishing alarms. App permissions were too broad. Some progress has been made, and more is needed.

If you’re looking for a new password manager, apple passwords is surprisingly good and free. Notable missing features are: - API access of any kind to use secrets - secure notes/arbitrary keys (ie api keys) It’s great for passkeys and passwords across browsers though!

The city of Seattle has an awesome app called “Find it, fix it” I use it to submit service requests to the city for things like: - a leaking sprinkler at a park - drinking fountain not working - trash/debris that needs to be cleaned up Often within a day the city fixes it! Highly recommend it 😃

I've been working on a new project (more on that soon™), and a portion of it is pure TS so I was finally able to try out oxlint and oxfmt. Hooooly cow! For ~60 files formatting and linting are only 7ms each.

🌶️ take: AI content can be valuable and worth reading. I work with LLMs a lot every day, and my pace of learning is the highest it’s been since school. I often learn things from LLM responses. Pre-LLMs, humans authored SEO slop. Evaluate content on its quality/value, not only the type of author.

Finally getting around to containerizing @docduck.dev. Can't believe I waited so long! One benefit I wanted was test speed. Previously the full battery took ~8 mins. Now that network round-trips are gone, I can run the full test suite <3 mins locally 👌🏻

Okay having spent some additional time using Ox Alpha, I think it's at least as good as Sol High. Really good model. If the Qwen 3.8 release is anything to go by and we get models this good at the 27-31B parameter size in 6 months it's gonna be cray cray

I think the most idiotic code I ever wrote was friending `main`. I had reached the ballmer peak while working in a C++ codebase and needed to see a class' pri... well, IYKYK. Anyway I forgot to remove the `friend main` when I shipped the PR and was upset some idiot would ship such awful code 🙃

It definitely doesn’t feel like a Claude model! I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s an OAI or not, could go either way tbh. Seems pretty good though! I’ve been trying it out today and the results are quite good! I’d say Ox Alpha high reasoning feels at least as good as Sol Low-medium, possibly better.

Trying to set up docker cli on a new mac with homebrew: ❌ `docker` package doesn't include compose. ❌ Add the `docker-compose` package + configure the extension dir. Still no docker runtime. ❌ Try out colima. No buildkit, needs `docker-buildx` ✅ Screw all that, `brew install docker-desktop` worked

AI is amazing. Every day I'm learning new ways to solve modern problems with a new, better solution *checks notes* I'm sorry this has been possible for over 50 years?! JFC I've probably single-handedly wasted days of compute not knowing this.

Just got a new laptop. I've spent the past 6 years using Raycast with spotlight (the search box on ⌘+space) disabled. Before disabling spotlight, I was shocked to discover... It's good now?! All the stuff I use raycast for: - toggle dark mode - unit conversions - calculations built in and fast?!
