“He also later rated the sting of Synoeca septentrionalis as a 4, describing it as "Torture. You are chained in the flow of an active volcano. Why did I start this list?",[3] saying the pain lasts up to two hours.[3]”

I think at that particular moment there was a strong likelihood that the health secretary would resign and it is therefore in the public interest to report that he had just met with the Prime Minister, yes.

Alan White @aljwhite.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Yeah I guess in absolute terms with cuts elsewhere you're right. Do think volume is the big factor over engagement tho. That said they definitely cared more than when I wrote about charity regulation or outsourcing, I was shocked to learn

With respect, the reporting since Labour has been in power has not been breathless: yes there has been some speculation as to Streeting and Burnham's intentions as it's become clear that Starmer's position within his party is untenable but as this week has shown it is not baseless
310
Alan White @aljwhite.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
I don't think it's that straightforward, we've had 6 PMs in 8 years, it's as much a response to what's unfolding before their eyes as it is anything else. Also: are lobby teams any bigger than they were 10 years ago?
320
Alan White @aljwhite.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
I've also no doubt that there are a group of posters who are outraged by the superficial, feral hacks of the lobby right now who were rather quieter when it was the Tories collapsing in a heap.

Alan White @aljwhite.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
The overwhelming amount of coverage provided by @politicshome.bsky.social is about policy and we would probably have a greater volume of traffic (though much less engagement) if we did more on the punch and judy stuff. But there comes a point in the cycle when political parties need to be the focus
1220
Alan White @aljwhite.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
There were people getting annoyed last week because we'd reported *the Health Secretary had resigned*. We didn't make 100 MPs come out against the PM; the local election results did. Bored of criticism of political journalists for reporting that politics is happening.
