3/ We obtained a video that shows a teen being dragged across the floor by kids. Guards watch as the kids force him into a cell and give them a thumbs up. The facility didn't report it to the state. His family didn't know until we showed up at their door.

1/ I first heard the name Jason Crews in 2024. A bill to add outside oversight to the juvenile justice system failed. A lawmaker said Crews’ lobbying was a factor. “I can’t think of a reason for not wanting oversight unless there’s something to hide,” an advocate said. 🧵

I take no pleasure in saying that I and my @propublicaguild.org colleagues are on strike. It shouldn't have come to this and i can only hope that seeing the overwhelming majority of staff walk out today opens management's eyes and convinces them we're serious about our demands.

It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.
