Role-swap is a very fun concept because a characters "role" will be influenced by their own past actions to some extent, so I can somewhat use their default lore depending on how I choose to apply it ^^ You can also infer their actual roles from this >:)

If there were a personification of perfectionism I would rally to grant it a public execution I found a cute set of October art prompts; AU-Tober! An interesting chance to play with their lore or just throw my OCs in fun situations ^^ Cant guarantee I'll do every day but I'll try a few :)
Image of one OC of mine pinning another to a wall with his foot, a cocky expression on his face. The man being pinned by his shoulder holds malice in his eyes.
Text reads:
AU-Tober - role swap

-rich
-powerful

-pariah
-broke
-weak?

Happy Birthday, Momiji! At last, an illustration dedicated to one of my favorite characters. Probably the most complex (outfit) design I've tried to do, too. Didn't do EVERYTHING I wanted, but I'm pleased here. #ninjagaiden #deadoralive #doa #momiji #もみぢ
Digital illustration featuring Momiji from the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series by SirGOGetter. The kunoichi and Dragon Shrine Maiden sports an athletic leaping pose and is surrounded by leaves ("momiji" is Japanese for "autumn leaves"), including some flaming leaves, under a cloudy sunset sky.

runaway royal ^^ #septpalette26 #art #artsky
Digital illustration of a woman in a long, pink dress, sitting on a cut down log while leaning forwards and reaching out for a pink butterfly flying in front of her as she smiles.
Various people can be found walking through a wheat field in the background raising their hands as though calling out for somebody.
The skyline is defined by the form of a castle, a sunset casts the entire image in an orange hue.

hehe I'm always glad to help It's unfortunate that I can't give that much advice on the leaves since I don't have much experience drawing them myself but I am glad to be of help regardless

That should be everything! If the advice is too late it wouldn't hurt to save this thread for a later date and try it on a new background :P It's a lotta general info that can be valuable in many cases ^^ I'm still practicing backgrounds myself but I hope this can help you as it did me >:)

4.2. Silhouettes and the boundary between light and shadow are the best areas to clarify texture while keeping details low. You can add the forms of the leaves as shadows in the bushes at the boundary between light and shadow or their silhouettes in the trees and you've got pretty and simple trees!
simple drawing of a snake with it's head in shadow and horns that look like branches with leavessame drawing but with notes
Red: "silhouettes"
Pink: "transition points between light & dark"
Blue: "no detail" (I.e.; you can afford to be quite lazy if you execute this well)
110
Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
4.1. A bonus if you want to challenge yourself a bit The main cause of noise in the image are the leaves, I can tell you used a brush but with a bit of effort they can reasonably be simplified and you would reduce the 'busy' effect you mentioned.
110
Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
3.1 You used three values for light, mid-tones and shadows each. not a bad idea but it can reasonably be simplified to one or two values of low contrast, as the eyes aren't meant to focus on the area the detail isn't required
image showing the value range originally used on the branches of the treesimage showcasing options of less values that can be used on the trees instead

Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
2.1. While more realistic on larger scales because the atmosphere causes it, you can lighten the background and darken the foreground to achieve a sense of dimension in the image the inverse can also be achieved through light falloff, so you have options
mountain range, notable the mountains in the foreground are darker and they get lighter as they distance themselves from the cameradark forest lit by a flashlight, notably the forest gets darker as the light fails to reach further away
110
Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
1.2. So the goral is to unify the values a bit by either darkening the leaves or lightening the branches, you can choose based on the vibe of the image you're trying to go for colors are always relative so it won't look off to have either change their values
Image by SirGoGetter, leaves darkenedImage by SirGoGetter, branches lightened

Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
1.1. If you use a black or white saturation layer on your drawing you can see that the values are a bit all over the place. The branches having significantly different values from the leaves cause a lot of contrast and would draw the eyes away from the focal point.

Not sure if I'm timely enough but I have a few ideas on how you can simplify the image a bit if you feel it is too 'busy' that can still look nice and stylized 1. Values create contrast 2. Values create dimension 3. Less is more

Quick inverse -about 30 mins- with detailed shadows and simple lights I may continue doing this but I believe I'll see the most progress if I try this exercise with more complicated shapes #art #study #artstudy

Thank you for the input! Although I believe there's definitely a more beautiful method to clarifying shape than adding the reflective lights in their simplest form. I'll probably experiment a bit more with this- I have quite a few of these shape-pictures, after all >:)

Tamaki from #DeadorAlive, just in time for her birthday! My first full illustration in over a year; always wanted to do a fun pool scene, and I think this one turned out well! Definitely wanted to make this one a bit on the saucey side. Hope it works! 😛 *labeling for the swimsuit*
Tamaki from Dead or Alive steps out of a pool, water dripping from various parts of her body. Clad in a sporty black bikini and turquoise shorts with a pink "Naughty" text in the center, she glances back to flirtatiously wink and pucker her lips to a heart-like shape. In the back, a dolphin can be seen leaping in the air under a cloudy sky.

heard a good way to get better at simplifying is to give yourself a time limit so I did a few studies where I gave myself 5 mins to do each Main thing I'm seeing is that I tend to stick away from extreme values Might use black and white as a groundwork next time to see how it goes then^^ #artstudy

Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
And while I understand that slightly different hues are an important way to distinguish your OCs, adding even the shadows would seem a bit restrictive? All in all I just believe simplifying the palette a bit would make it both easier to use and come across as less strict. (3/3)

Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
colors and shading anyway, and a multiply layer could suffice if someone really wants an easy way out. Next to that it’s a lot simpler when you look at a part of an outfit and can immediately gauge which of two given colors is the right one as opposed to wondering which may just be a shadow.- (2/3)
100
Alison 🥀 @alisonrosey.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Ohhh I think this is very cool and incredibly useful! I do think you could simplify it to just the flat colors though. If I’m not mistaken you added shadows to the palette which seems redundant and ends up looking quite cluttered. I’m sure you know how different styles and environments change- (1/3)
