Second dissertation chapter just dropped at Ecology Letters! doi.org/10.1111/ele.70441 Across theory, stochastic models, and protist microcosms, we show how rising temporal autocorrelation drives predictable increases in extinction risk under warming (ft. coauthor @mtkummel.bsky.social!)

Temporal Autocorrelation Increases Temperature‐Driven Extinction Risk by Clustering Stressful Conditions
Extinction risk forecasting typically relies on comparing thermal tolerance data to predicted shifts in thermal distributions. However, changing temporal sequencing of temperatures may exacerbate the....

I'm joining Rutgers DEENR in a tenure-track faculty position this fall! I'll be recruiting a quantitative postdoc in climate change wildlife ecology (start fall 26 or jan 27) and PhD student doing bioacoustics to study avian responses to extreme weather (start fall 27). We can help make your experiments better! 🌊🧪🌎 🧮➕📏 @raviranjan.bsky.social and I have been thinking about how to improve experimental design. We have a preprint with maths, simple rules-of-thumb, and R code and Shiny apps ready to help you.

A visualisation of Bayesian optimal designs for Monod (nutrient) curves at four different sample sizes, and a comparison of those designs against a uniform design using 1000 simulations per sample size. Across all 4 sample sizes, the Bayesian optimal design outperformed the uniform design for parameter estimation in >80% of simulations. We quantified this using the Energy Score, a generalisation of the Mean Absolute Error that applies to distributions and multiple parameters. See preprint for details.

The secret lives of salamanders
A new Yale-led study finds that while the outward appearance of woodland salamanders has changed little over millions of years, their physiology has evolved in striking ways.

Excited to share a new paper doi.org/10.1098/rsbl... We suggest that tradeoffs between infection costs and the benefits of sociality are dynamic, context-dependent, and likely asymmetric within dyads. We then propose hypotheses about how these tradeoffs might shape social responses to parasites...

Thrilled to share that my first dissertation chapter is now published at Ecology! dx.doi.org/10.1002/ecy.... We embed TPCs into population dynamics to show how changing temperatures' ordering — not just its distribution — increases extinction risk (i.e. heatwaves matter!) @esajournals.bsky.social
