Just look at the glee on Nigel Farage’s face as he watches a Piddington resident cry about the overt racism she, her Caribbean heritage husband, and their two children have felt in the village during the referendum. Time and again he’s showing us exactly who he is.

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/

There was a lot of rancour in Hartlepool about the failure to sort out local health services - arguably what led them to throw out the Labour MP and local council. And a lot of noise was made about the levelling up funds, but it didn't address the main problems in those areas.

Alison Killing @alisonkilling.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
Yes, I understand that - I was emphasising the original poster's point though. People are frustrated that the help they get is capital improvements in the high street, when what they need is jobs and restoration of local services.

UK Members of Parliament Ian Duncan Smith and Alex Sobel put out this statement in response to our Xinjiang story, describing the extensive prison network in the region and campaign of forced assimilation that is taking place there.
Quote from @MPIainDS and @alexsobel:

"Despite increasing global awareness, our own Parliament's declaration of genocide, and the findings of the Uyghur Tribunal, global efforts to hold Beijing accountable have fallen woefully short. The sheer scale of this infrastructure, now holding the highest detention capacity in the world, demonstrates an evolved and calculated campaign of mass imprisonment and cultural erasure.

Together with our cross-party parliamentary colleagues, we have written to the Foreign Secretary and the UK Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, urging the UK Government to leverage its international platform and take immediate action, including targeted sanctions and stricter supply chain controls to block forced labour."

Researchers and activists say the loss of working-age adults is hollowing out communities, especially in southern Xinjiang where the Uyghur population is concentrated.

Beijing has also expanded labour programmes that move Uyghurs into factory work elsewhere in China — schemes UN experts have said may amount to forced labour - with 3 million people transferred last year.

Children are separated from families at young ages through a sprawling boarding school system. Uyghur activists say this is creating a “generation gap” where many no longer understand their elders’ language.
