Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 01/09/2025Thank you for the info. I don’t have a Breakout EDU account. Are the locks generally about a specific type of content? I’m simply interested in the idea of offering regular digital puzzles and looking for ideas. Was thinking of making some weekly ones based on my district’s digital resources. 110
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 01/09/2025I made my own breakout boxes (I think I’m gonna call them “break-in boxes”) and will be using them for orientation this week! 110

Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 10/12/2024Commiseration and Celebration for my National Board Certification cohort at my school. We all had at least some good news to celebrate, and determination to persevere in the year ahead. 020
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 09/12/2024This is very important to me. Kohn warns us that the extrinsic motivation of rewards can have a long-term negative outcome on the desired behavior. Reading in this case. The closer the reward is to the activity itself the better for encouraging the original activity. 120
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Also created a thematically connected treasure hunt. Pablo the Polar Bear is hiding around the library, doing a different challenge activity each day. Kids find him, write down which winter challenge activity he’s doing, and enter to win a LEGO prize. This part was a student idea! 000
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Students who complete at least one activity will be eligible to choose a free book as a prize. Students are also asked to set their own goal. We’ll see how it goes this year. #EduSky #Skybrarian #TLSkyChat #SchoolLibrarian 251
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Participation in my library winter reading challenge was low last year. This year, I’m trying to make it super accessible and more student driven. Students pick between 1 to 13 activities to complete. If they complete even one, I consider that a success. 130
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Library book club win: Ss had such fun w/ my “White Elephant” activity. Books were wrapped, w/ only a blurb to guide their choices. A student chose one, unwraps to reveal, & picks the next person to choose. Books can be “stolen” once unwrapped up to 3x. Everyone was happy at the end. #EduSky 353

Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 21/11/2024I ♥️ this & appreciate the details. Where do you bake—the school cafeteria? If so, do you mix in the cafeteria too? Our school cafeteria is not allowed to cook food from scratch, only heat prepared items, so not sure if I could implement I bake a lot at home. Would love to share this w/kids 120
Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Just finished this one. What a suspenseful ride! Once I got 100 or so pages in, I couldn’t put it down 020

Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 11/11/2024One highlight, quoted from Daniel Berrigan: “One cannot level one’s moral lance at every evil in the universe. There are just too many of them. But you can do something; and the difference between doing something and doing nothing is everything.” 000

Ali Lauer @alilauer.bsky.social · 16/08/2024My library makers are fascinated with this character right now. Who is it? What’s it from? I know they told me, but my exhausted teacher brain couldn’t hold on to it. But it’s okay if IDK. Just keep supporting their builds w/ enthusiasm. ✅ (& asking them if I can post pics delights them) 130
