I actually don’t get this? Using myriad as a noun like this is a perfectly acceptable use of the word. It can be a noun or an adjective.

Hank, please please please please please tell me what the heck you said on the September 14th episode of Delete This at 24:15. All I can hear is “nature has been read in do then claw the whole time”, and the auto-transcription isn’t any better. I can’t figure out what it’s supposed to be. #piples
Image of the automatic transcription of the episode of Delete This that was referenced. The text of the transcript reads as follows: “NO.
Style.
Oh, but I do like to remember that nature has been read in Duthanclaw the whole time, and suffering is...
Oh, absolutely.
Real rough out there in the wild.
Built in to the whole thing.”

Some picks I took in Lowell around 11 AM today.
Image taken looking up towards the sky. No blue is visible. The sky is overcast with smoke appearing with an orange tint, darker lower towards the ground and lighter higher up. There are trees on the right and the bottom of the image, and the top of a house visible in the bottom left.Image taken looking up towards the sky. No blue is visible. I'm imagining going to a convention where Biden controls 26% of the delegates, Sanders 22%, Warren 15%, Bloomberg 10%, Buttigieg 7%, Klobuchar 4%, etc... and needing to hash out the candidate and the platform there.

Oh, OK. Missed that these probabilities don't add up to 66%, not 100%. So within the remaining 34%, there are possible matches that don't contain the US.

I really don’t get why liberalism is such a dirty word in so many leftist spaces, given that like of the entire opening paragraph of the Liberalism page on Wikipedia, the highlighted bit are the only ones that run opposed to even full-bore socialism. Everything else sounds nice to have regardless.
The top of the Wikipedia page for Liberalism. It reads “Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property, and equality before the law. Different liberals espouse various and sometimes conflicting views depending on their understanding of these principles but generally support liberal democracy, private property, market economies, individual rights (including civil rights and human rights), secularism, rule of law, economic and political freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom of religion. Liberalism is frequently cited as the dominant ideology of modern history.”

I have highlighted “right to private property” and “private property, market economies”.

Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg and Warren Buffett are three of the richest people in the world, but they pay little in income tax relative to their wealth.
In 2021, ProPublica published an investigation built on leaked tax documents that reveal what some of the richest Americans really pay
— or don't. Warren Buffett had a true tax rate of 0.1 percent. Jeff Bezos: 0.98 percent.
Michael Bloomberg: 1.3 percent.
Ultra-wealthy Americans have essentially been written out of the tax system. "It's wrong as a matter of principle. It's wrong because we need their money. It's wrong as a matter of fairness. It is wrong for so many reasons," the law professor Ray Madoff told me.
She's the author of the new book "The Second Estate: How the Tax Code Made an American Aristocracy," and she's interested in helping people understand how broken the American tax system is and how to fix it.
In this conversation, we discuss the techniques the ultra-wealthy use to evade the tax system, why they think "salaries are for suckers" and what tax reform could look like.

Probably my favorite quote from Marx: "The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living." It really does feel like that sometimes.
The image is the 2nd paragraph of Karl Marx's The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte: "Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living. And just as they seem to be occupied with revolutionizing themselves and things, creating something that did not exist before, precisely in such epochs of revolutionary crisis they anxiously conjure up the spirits of the past to their service, borrowing from them names, battle slogans, and costumes in order to present this new scene in world history in time-honored disguise and borrowed language. Thus Luther put on the mask of the Apostle Paul, the Revolution of 1789-1814 draped itself alternately in the guise of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and the Revolution of 1848 knew nothing better to do than to parody, now 1789, now the revolutionary tradition of 1793-95. In like manner, the beginner who has learned a new language always translates it back into his mother tongue, but he assimilates the spirit of the new language and expresses himself freely in it only when he moves in it without recalling the old and when he forgets his native tongue."

Nikko National Park makes for a great day trip from Tokyo. Kegon Waterfall there is gorgeous, especially if you get a view from the bottom around the time of sunset. This picture is from May of last year.
Kegon Waterfall at sunset. I tight stream of water falls nearly 100 meters down a rock face. There is lush greenery all around. The sun sits just over the top of the falls.

Four panel comic. In panel 1, the person 1 says “ALL THİS CRAZiNESS iS WRECKING THE ECONOMY! THE MARKET'S GONNA CRASH AT THiS RATE!” and person 2 replies “YOU DON'T KNOW THAT! WHAT iF, LiKE... WHAT if iT DOESN'T?”

In panel 2, person 1 says “WHAT iF iT DOESN'T?!” and person 2 replies “YEAH... LiKE, Y'KNOW... WHAT iF IT DOESN'T?”

In panel 3, person 1 says “WHAT if iT... DOESN'T?” And person 2 says “WHAT if IT DOESN'T?”

In panel 4, person 1 says “WHAT IF iT DOESN'T?” And person 2 says “WHAT iF iT DOESN'T!”

Over the course of these 4 panels, a chart of a stock price goes from being down in the red to being up and green by the 4th panel. The first man goes from panicking and angry to being happy and credulous. The 2nd person initially presented their hypothetical of “what if it doesn’t” with a look of testing the waters, but is confident by the end.

This would heavily interfere with the nice view of the Lincoln Memorial you can get from the top of Arlington Cemetery.
Photo taken from the Robert E Lee house in the Arlington National Cemetery. It looks over the Potomac. Past the river you can see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Capitol Building.

It's easy to say "Boston" in these discussions, and what that means is all of eastern MA, and southern NH and northern RI. I got priced out of my 1 bedroom apartment in NH (red X) after it went from under $1200 to over $1600 in less than 3 years!

Jon Lovett, head writer Halle Kiefer, and producers Caroline Reston and Elijah Cone have been way too online this week. They survey the world of Al slop, including catchy physics explainer music videos, glass food cutting asmr YouTube Shorts, and a far-right parody cartoon of a niche Twitter personality.
Caroline also explains the Group 7 phenomenon and everyone participating in the trend from Malala to Olive Garden.

The UI is completely different for me now. I have videos I opened before (left) and after (right) the change and I hate the new one. Also, the UI on paused videos now disappears if you don't have your mouse over the video.

Can a socialist not be a liberal? Just looking at the Wikipedia article on Liberalism, socialism on rules out a very small portion of the description of liberalism.

Benjamin Franklin disagrees. The values aren’t “shifting back” to anything. The name Gulf of Mexico is older than the United States (or Mexico!) being a country. It’s the universally recognized name around the world. It is ridiculous to change it on the whim of one man.

Aliensinnoh @aliensinnoh.bsky.social · 13/02/2025
Also, Benjamin Franklin was calling it the Gulf of Mexico in 1767, over 350 years ago. I’m not going to call it something different because of one guy’s whim.

lol r/Civ (which has a number of Firaxis employees as moderators) now has a rule that bans discussion of Luigi Mangione. Just typing the name Luigi in a comment will get you this warning. I didn’t even know this functionality existed in the Reddit app.
Screenshot from the Reddit app, leaving a comment on a post in r/Civ. In the reply box, a reply is being typed that contains nothing but the word “Luigi”. Below the reply box is a warning that popped up that reads “Discussion of the Luidgi Mangione and his relation to the Civ games is not allowed here as we do not allow posts or comments pertaining to current events such as this.”

Sorry Great Plains, but New England simply produces better Federal workers than you.
First three digits of social security numbers for the six New England states:

004-007 for Maine.

008-009 for Vermont.

010-034 for Massachusetts.

035-039 for Rhode Island.

040-049 for Connecticut.

Not for nothing, but this is extremely idiotic because social security numbers AREN’T RANDOM. The first three digits are determined by birth state. I’m sure the 14 Republican Senators from these seven states will love every single federal employee born in their states losing their jobs LMFAO.
First three digits of social security numbers by state for seven states:

501-502 are for North Dakota.

503-504 are for South Dakota.

505-508 are for Nebraska.

509-515 are for Kansas.

516-517 are for Montana.

518-519 are for Idaho.

520 is for Wyoming.
