Two Harry Potter fanfics are on the NYT bestseller list. The author of one was uninvited from Romance Con because readers believe she's helping to keep JK Rowling relevant and profitable. The issue has exposed how HP fandom may never truly be separate from the bigot. I wrote about it for Pajiba.

I will never cease to be amazed by books. Seriously. Just think about it; thousands of people read the same book, but in everyone’s brain’s the characters look different, the setting changes etc. We are all reading the same thing, but it's so unique to each of us. That is a beautiful thing.

Penance was one of my favourite reads of 2023!! It was a super nice surprise to see it in your top ten - and I super relate to your experience when finishing it 😭 Also happy to see you enjoyed some of the books I've had on my TBR for a while. Definitely gives me hope that they'll be good!
