@skeuomorphpress.org Exciting mail day! Gorgeous, and while I'm feeling a little grumpy about it getting ripped in transit, I'm also appreciating that that's part of the materiality of the print.
A letterpress poster of the Ursula K. Le Guin quote, "Technology is the active human interface with the material world." The text is in black over an orange image of flame coming from matches.

In other people for whom Toronto airports are named, I think of this very often.
A strip from Kate Beaton, "Call Me Mike."

A man dressed as a pilot, in goggles, scarf, and sunglasses says, "Lester?! That's not a name for an aviation hero, that's a nerd name!"

"I'm calling you Mike" to which Pearson replies, "Can I keep the bowtie?"

"You're alright, Mike," says the first man, with an over-the-top grin and a thumbs up.

how it's going
An image from The Simpsons, showing a newspaper with the headline "Old Man Yells at Cloud," where Grandpa Simpson is shaking his fist at a cloud. In this version, the cloud from the original has been replaced by the AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud logo, with the Amazon arrow turned upside down to be more frown-like.

Good morning from Mickle.

Lookin' brutal, engineering center.
A brutalist university building, with students walking toward it and a clear blue sky behind it.

You were right, it is what I needed to do (with a slight lag). I've been looking for a pair of fisherman sandals (saltwater sandals only makes them for kids) and I'm very excited to wear these all the time. Thank you for the excellent recommendation.
A picture of two very, wearing dark blue fisherman-style sandals.

Also, this tiny monster.
A tortoiseshell cat lies in a box, their head resting on one corner. They look generally unimpressed by the proceedings.

Reposted with (very disheartening, if unsurprising) alt text. "Good day as any to delete Facebook, Instagram, and/or Threads if you have not already" and I'll add WhatsApp to the list
Meta is demanding access to all of your photos, even the ones you haven't uploaded anywhere yet - and it's being incredibly shifty about what it intends to do with them.

As The Verge reports, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company refuses to rule out the possibility that it will use your phone's camera roll to train its Al models, and could only provide the assurance that it's not "currently" doing so. If the situation changes in the future, it would be a striking testament to the Al industry's desperation for clean, Al-pollution-free sources of training data.

For Mickle's recent birthday (observed) I made them a party hat, which lasted about one resentful second and they then jettisoned with the most epic side-eye
A tortoiseshell cat, lying on a knapsack, looks resentful about the bright yellow pointed hat they've been made by their loving human. A tortoiseshell cat, sitting on a windowsill, looks down with great skepticism at a bright yellow paper hat that is falling off their head.

Coverage of the April 5 protest in my town (pop <1,800), in the monthly publication with town news (town meeting, dog-of-the-year winners, bird-of-prey expert at the elem. school, museum passes at the library, historical society news, event where local tech school students will fix your stuff)
Picture of people standing on both sides of a road in a small New England town, many holding signs and wearing raincoats.

Captioned "An estimated 350-400 people gathered in C center in
support of the nationwide "Hands Off" event, April 5."

The names of disappeared academics whose names we know, in the style of the scarves of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo. A raised pride fist, originally from Trans Day of Visibility. A sign from a Tesla Takedown, highlighting how similar the Tesla logo and an IUD look.
The names of academics disappeared in the last month:

Mahmoud Khalil
Ranjani Srinivasan
Leqaa Kordia
Rasha Alawieh
Badar Khan Suri
Momodou Taal
Yunseo Chung
Alireza Doroudi
Rümeysa Öztürk
Doğukan Günaydın
Kseniia Petrova

screen printed in dark blue on white fabric, in tribute to the scarves of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo.

There is room for additional names to be added.
From Trans Day of Visibility, a raised fist designed with colored paper, where the fingers are in the light blue, pink, and white of the trans flag, and the palm & wrist are in the colors of the progress pride flag. Looking at this picture, I notice the purple has fallen off.A sign from a Tesla Takedown. One side says "Yes, please" with a picture of an IUD. The other side says "No, thank you" with a picture of the Tesla logo with a line through it.

The Tesla logo looks very similar to an IUD, likely because no one making decisions at Tesla has ever thought about IUDs, let alone seen one.

The FAA's Airmen Registry search (amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/airmeninquiry) is intermittently down - it's back working for me now, but I'm curious what's getting moved around behind the scenes.

Yesterday evening, I got to ski by moonlight to a bonfire on a frozen pond. Especially appreciative of such moments amongst the mishugas.
A conical bonfire in the dark, on a snowy frozen pond. A dozen people can be seen behind the fire, as are hills in the distance. The flame and embers rise above the burning wood, with sparks seen into the sky.

@hansilowang.bsky.social Do you happen to know if there's an updated date for releasing all of the 2020 data, as the website still says the remaining products by September 2024?
Screen shot of a census.gov website, "About 2020 Census Data Products," that begins "Many 2020 Census data products are now available, and we plan to release the remaining data products by September 2024."

The date, September 2024, is highlighted for emphasis.

So much more helpful than some bar graph / pie chart comparisons.
Two stills showing Jason Segel playing Marshall Eriksen on the TV program How I Met Your Mother.

In the first, he is showing a pie chart titled "My Favorite Bars." In the second, he is showing a bar graph titled "My Favorite Pies."

I'd love to see the chart of properties by number of host listings, for more detail about how "hosts with multiple properties account for nearly half of all NYC listings." How many of the nearly half of listings are hosted by someone with 2-9 listings, and how many are hosted by those with 10+?
Donut chart of NYC Airbnb hosts by number of listings, June 2023: Hosts with 1 listing - 82%, hosts with 2-9 listings - 17%, hosts with more than 10 listings - 0.8%
